Nottingham Forest are interested in Wigan winger Gavin Massey who is out of contract in the summer.

That's according to the Daily Mail and whilst the Latics want to keep hold of the 26-year-old, the chance to move to Forest may appeal to the player.

Massey has endured a tough campaign with injuries so far that has restricted him to just 14 appearances in the league.

However, he has played the last four games and has scored twice, so he is starting to find form for Paul Cook's men at a critical stage of the season as they battle to avoid the drop.

The former Colchester man boasts great pace and is an old-school winger that looks to get to the byline at every opportunity.

And, here we look at THREE consequences for Forest if they brought him to the City Ground...

A new position for Joe Lolley

Lolley has been primarily playing down the right flank under O'Neill and he is the best player at the club so it's not going to be a case of Massey coming in ahead of him.

Instead, the manager might have plans to move the ex-Huddersfield man centrally in an advanced midfield role where he could be equally effective thanks to his technique and quality on the ball.

A loan for Arvin Appiah

The youngster, who has been capped at youth level by England, is extremely highly-rated and Forest have had a glimpse of his talent already.

But, this move would push him further down the pecking order and it could mean the Reds want him out on loan to get regular football next season.

A signal of the transfer policy

As we all know, Forest's transfer dealings last season saw a lot of talented youngsters with big reputations arrive from Portugal, with comparisons made to Wolves.

However, this could signal a different approach, with O'Neill focusing on bringing through players who have experience of the league.
