If you had asked every fan of the Championship which team they'd reckon would be top of the league entering the Christmas period, surely 90% of people wouldn't have said Norwich City.

After a disappointing campaign culminating in a 14th placed finish last term, the Canaries got off to a dismal start to proceedings this season, winning just one of their opening six league games.

Fast forward three months however, and Daniel Farke's men currently sit at the top of the Championship, on the back of five successive league victories, and nine wins from eleven league games.

It's been a mightily impressive turnaround at Carrow Road - the Canaries currently find themselves three points clear of 3rd place Leeds United, and there is no doubt that Norwich fans will be hoping that their side can maintain their amazing form going into the new year.

The January transfer window will be a hugely important period for Farke - not just in terms of keeping hold of the likes of Teemu Pukki, but also strengthening their squad depth in preparation for a promotion push back to the Premier League.

With that being said, here, we take a look at three positions Norwich must consider strengthening in January.

Of course there is going to be interest for Teemu Pukki in January - the 28-year old has netted ten times and produced one assist for the Canaries this term.

His form in front of goal has already attracted interest from Galatasaray, and who knows which other clubs will come knocking if the Finnish international keeps scoring.

Perhaps their attacking options need to be considered in January if the worse were to happen.

There is no doubt that the Championship is a harsh, gruelling environment where anyone can beat anyone, and perhaps City could do with strengthening the spine of their midfield.

Alex Tettey and Moritz Leitner have been superb for Norwich this term, but if the worse comes to worst and one of the pairing gets injured, then the addition of a solid back-up option in the heart of midfield wouldn't go amiss in January.

Jamal Lewis has been magnificent for Norwich this term, and recently penned a new deal at Carrow Road despite reported interest from West Ham United.

The homegrown star has looked extremely reliable at left-back, an area in which if the youngster were to sustain an injury, has very little back-up whatsoever.

This should be on Farke's wish-list in January.
