Only two teams have lost less games than Garry Monk's Birmingham City this season, so many people will be surely questioning as to how the Blues are outside the play-off positions heading into a busy festive period.

Birmingham have drawn nine games in the Championship this season and with Monk's side only four points adrift of the play-off places, there is every reason to believe that they could win promotion to the Premier League.

Their good run of form has largely been down to the strike pairing of Che Adams and Lucas Jutkiewicz who have netted 17 goals between them already this season, with only six other goals being scored from other members of the squad this season, so their influence to this side is key.

The Blues travel to Villa Park to face local rivals Aston Villa as they aim to pull off an upset in Dean Smith's first Second City derby at the weekend.

But could Monk be tempted to add to his squad to strengthen his depth in the January transfer window?

Blues goalkeeper, Lee Camp, wasn't the most inspiring of signings in the summer but it's safe to say he has proved many Birmingham fans wrong as to why they signed him.

At the age of 34, though, he is coming to the end of his career and it might be an idea to get someone to challenge for his spot.

Birmingham winger Jacques Maghoma has been ruled out through injury in recent weeks which will be hugely frustrating to Blues fans, would who have been keen to see the tricky winger kick-on this season.

Garry Monk is likely to add more wide players to his squad in January to help aid their surprise promotion bid in this year's campaign.

The centre-back pairing of Michael Morrison and Harlee Dean (pictured) has been one of the main positives for Birmingham City this season and if they are to mount any sort promotion challenge, then they will need the pair fit for the majority of the season.

But if they are to miss games during this years campaign, then Garry Monk will have to have a back-up option lined up as the current defensive reinforcements are not yet ready to perform to the high standard that Morrison and Dean have already set.
