Sheffield Wednesday will be looking to cause an upset in the League Cup by defeating Premier League outfit Southampton in midweek.

The Owls set up this particular clash by eliminating Rochdale from the competition in the previous round.

Providing that the likes of Josh Windass, Barry Bannan and Lee Gregory are firing on all cylinders on Wednesday, Darren Moore's side could cause some issues for Southampton's defenders.

Whereas this aforementioned trio have all previously produced memorable displays for the Owls, some of the club's former players ultimately failed to impress during their respective spells at Hillsborough.

Ahead of the club's meeting with Southampton, we have decided to take a look at three players you probably forgot ever put on a Sheffield Wednesday shirt...

Rory McArdle

A product of Sheffield Wednesday's academy, Rory McArdle made his debut for the club in their clash with Plymouth Argyle in 2006.

After failing to establish himself as a key player for the Owls, McArdle sealed a permanent exit from Hillsborough in 2007 as he joined Rochdale.

The defender currently plays for Harrogate Town and has featured on eight occasions in the fourth-tier this season.

George Hirst would have been hoping to follow in the footsteps of his father David by becoming a popular figure with Wednesday's supporters.

However, the forward only made two appearances in all competitions for the Owls before sealing a move to Belgian side OH Leuven.

Hirst was loaned out by his current club Leicester City to Blackburn Rovers in August.

Limited to just two starts for Rovers this season, the 23-year-old has been deployed as a substitute by head coach John Dahl Tomasson on six occasions in the Championship.

Adedeji Oshilaja

Signed on a short-term loan deal by Wednesday in 2014 from Cardiff City, Adideji Oshilaja made two appearances for the club in the Championship before returning to Wales.

Following a spell at Charlton Athletic, the defender sealed a move to Burton Albion last year.

During his time at the Pirelli Stadium, Oshilaja has made 46 league appearances for the club.

The 29-year-old was utilised as a left-back in Burton's recent defeat to the Owls and scored for his side in their victory over Needham Market in the FA Cup last weekend.
