The Championship throws up an exciting clash this weekend when unbeaten Fulham welcome an inconsistent Cardiff to Craven Cottage, in a game that could be the difference between a positive start to the season and a disappointing one for both teams.

Slavisa Jokanovic's side have started the league campaign with two wins and a draw to remain undefeated so far.

A 3-2 win away to League One club Leyton Orient in the EFL Cup 1st Round has contributed to an optimistic vibe amongst the Fulham fans.

It has been slightly less encouraging for the Bluebirds with Paul Trollope's men not only labouring to just one win in their four competitive games so far this season, but also having failed to register a goal by one of their own players.

Even in their 2-1 win over Blackburn on Wednesday night it was Rovers centre back Shane Duffy who scored two own goals.

Football League World writer Steve Day looks ahead to this pivotal game for both teams this Saturday afternoon, and picks three players that fans should look out for who could play a key role in proceedings.....

Ryan Sessegnon

Ryan Sessegnons

One of the surprise packages of the season so far has been the emergence of 16-year- old left back Sessegnon in the Fulham first team.

When Jokanovic signed Scott Malone from Cardiff earlier in the summer, it looked like the former Millwall man would be the starting left-back for the Cottagers.

However, Jokanovic gave Sessegnon his first competitive start for the club in the 3-2 victory of Leyton Orient in the EFL Cup 1st round, and he followed this up by being handed another start in the 1-1 draw with Leeds during mid-week.

Sessegnon has impressed with performances that are mature beyond his years, and showing that he has the potential to become a big player in the future.

He is currently involved with the England Under-17's set-up and big things are expected of this talented young player.

Aron Gunnarsson

Aron Gunnarsson

The issue of Gunnarsson at Cardiff has been one that has troubled Bluebirds fans, for a number of seasons now.

His arrival from Coventry back in 2011 was highly praised and his performances over his first couple of seasons with the club saw him become a fans' favourite.

He played a key role in their run to the 2012 Capital One Cup Final, and was also an influential figure in their Championship title-winning campaign in 2012/13.

Unfortunately, it seemed that a combination of poor management, and a lack of confidence has resulted in Gunnarsson being unable to replicate the form he has displayed for his national side for his club team.

The 27-year-old put in a superb shift against Blackburn in mid-week and the test will now be if he can deliver once again against Fulham, and begin his resurrection at Cardiff.

Declan John

declan john

It has been a couple of frustrating seasons for 21-year-old.

John who is a product of the Cardiff youth academy, was a regular first-team player under former manager Malky Mackay in the Premier League but Mackay's successors in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Russell Slade both failed to show the same faith in the Merthyr-born full-back.

Things are looking a bit more positive for John under Trollope.

The departures of Malone and Fabio have allowed John to seize the left wing back role with both hands.

He has received positive reviews for his performances so far and it is expected that it could be the start of a rejuvenated career.

This will be a huge test for the man capped twice for Wales.

He suffered problems from a QPR side that were tight defensively and the same problems could be in place for John at Craven Cottage.

His performance in this game will give a big indication of how good he can be or if his selection in side is under threat.
