Brentford’s season has taken a turn for the worst after initially re-enforcing their play-off challenge while under the management of Lee Carsley.

Carsley was put in charge at the start of September after Marinus Dijkhuizen was sacked eight games into the current campaign.

In his reign, the former Everton midfielder had been popular with the playing squad at Griffin Park and claimed the manager of the month award in October with four consecutive victories, that saw them soar up to 10th from 19th position.

That form has not been replicated into Dean Smith’s Brentford career as they lounge in mid-table.

The Bees have lost four of their last five games, and while they have comfortable cushion from the relegation zone, manager, Dean Smith will be disappointed that they have been unable to improve on their previous season.

The club lost several key players in the transfer market in January and have not found suitable replacements for them.

Dean Smith will already be looking to plan for next season and there are plenty of players that he will be looking to shift out of the club to gain some first team experience.

Jack Bonham

The Bees goalkeeper has made only a single appearance for the club this season, but has mainly featured in their under 21’s.

He looks unlikely to get the call-up to replace David Button in goal, who has once again been excellent for the West London side.

His appearance for the senior side this season doesn’t stand him in good ways after pulling off a disappointing performance between the sticks against Oxford United.

He would benefit from working his way up in the lower stages of the Football League pyramid.

Courtney Senior

The 18-year-old is being hailed as one of the most exciting players in the country for his age, and has recently been on loan with League Two side Wycombe Wanderers.

However his stay with the Buckinghamshire side came to a short end after just one month with the club.

Senior needs to learn his trade at a competitive level and Dean Smith should consider letting the youngster go back to Wycombe on loan.

He featured in every single game during his time with the Blues, and Gareth Ainsworth was a big admirer of the Brentford forward.

Scott Hogan

The striker has had a torrid time with injuries of late, after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament injury in Brentford’s victory over Rotherham last season.

Hogan made his comeback a few days ago in Brentford’s development squad, and needed just seven minutes to get back to his old goal-scoring ways.

Hogan believes he will be twice the player he was before his injury, and his desire and hunger could be a tempting proposition for fellow Football League clubs.

With such a serious injury, Dean Smith will not want to rush Hogan into Championship action and should consider loaning the forward out to a lower league club to regain fitness.
