Ipswich Town could be set to bring striker Daryl Murphy back to Portman Road.

If reports by TWTD are to be believed, the Nottingham Forest forward is on a lengthy list of January targets that Paul Lambert has handed to Town owner Marcus Evans in an attempt to bolster his faltering squad.

Town remain bottom of the division but cut the gap to safety to five points after last weekend's win coupled with Reading’s late collapse saw them drop points.

Lambert’s side were the only team in the bottom seven that picked up three points at the weekend.

The 35-year-old has played for the club on four previous occasions, three of them being loan stints in Suffolk.

He has four goals in nine appearances in all competitions for Nottingham Forest this term – having played just six times in the Championship for Aitor Karanka’s side.

And with Murphy out of favour somewhat at the City Ground, Lambert could look to make the swoop for the veteran to boost his side’s survival chances

Ipswich are in need of points and to get them they will need new bodies into the club in the new year to try and achieve their primary aim of survival.

With that said, here are three players who should join Murphy on Lambert's Ipswich transfer wish-list

The Norwich loanee is out-of-favour at Carrow Road, and the short move across to Portman Road could be a real game-changer for Paul Lambert’s side.

Ben Marshall was instrumental last season during a January loan at Millwall as they finished eighth and that could be a real reason as to why Ipswich are interested.

He would certainly improve their side, and if he can have the same effect this year as he did for the Lions last term, then their chances of survival improve exponentially.

Albeit injured at present, Henri Lansbury could be a realistic loan target for Ipswich Town to help them get out of their current predicament.

Full of Championship pedigree, he would be a cut above many of the midfielder’s the club currently has and when fit and playing regularly, could be a considerable asset to Paul Lambert’s side - as he was when on loan at Norwich back in 2010 when bought in by the now Town boss.

Game time at Villa was not forthcoming before the injury, and with the new year approaching, it could be available even less than before.

A loan move to Portman Road could well be the answer to both the player and the club’s problems.

The Stoke midfielder has only managed three substitute appearances in the league this term and could well be looking for a move away to get more game time.

The pair were at the Bet 365 Stadium last season together, and Adam could well receive much more game time at Ipswich to get them up and away from the relegation zone.

His experience would be invaluable for a young, faltering side.
