Middlesbrough have had a very busy transfer window but Chris Wilder will be expecting more new faces to arrive ahead of the deadline.

The sale of Djed Spence was always on the cards, with the wing-back bringing in a significant fee after joining Spurs.

With Marcus Tavernier following him to the Premier League by joining Bournemouth, Boro are now in a position to make some serious moves in the market, with Wilder likely to want new additions throughout the spine of his side.

And, here we look at THREE players they should consider going for before the window shuts next month...

Ryan Porteous

A move for Jacob Greaves could be off as Hull stand firm to keep hold of their centre-back, so Boro could be forced to look elsewhere - and Hibs' Ryan Porteous could be a smart addition.

With his deal at Easter Road expiring next year, the Edinburgh outfit will be ready to cash in, so this is a realistic option.

The 23-year-old has been a hot-head over the years but he does have talent and he is capable of bringing the ball out of defence and could suit Wilder's style.

There would be few doubts about Porteous' ability to cope with the physicality of the Championship and this could be a smart move to provide much-needed depth and quality in defence for the Teesside outfit.

Jason Knight

Tavernier's exit has heightened the need for a new midfielder and Derby's Jason Knight should be on Boro's radar.

The Ireland international is a good all-round midfielder and is continuing to improve as he is just 21-years-old, whilst he has over 100 appearances under his belt for the Rams.

Boro are obviously recruiting players to make an instant impact, which Knight can do, but he has the added bonus of potentially starring at the club for the long-term.

Knight would surely relish the chance to move back to the Championship and he would bring a lot to the Boro squad.

Ross Stewart

You would expect Boro to bring in at least two strikers in this window as they're desperately short up top.

One player they have been linked with in the past is Sunderland's Ross Stewart and he would be an ideal addition as he could be the focal point in the team.

Of course, the Black Cats would be reluctant to sell and the idea of losing the striker to their north-east rivals won't go down well. However, with the Scotsman entering the final year of his deal, the reality is a decent offer will give the club a decision to make.

Sunderland want the player to sign a new deal but if they can't agree terms then Boro should be ready to pounce. So, it's ultimately on the player but if he joined Wilder's side he could become a key figure this season.
