With Portsmouth set to kick-off their 2019/20 campaign in 30 days' time, preparations are well underway at Fratton Park for what their supporters will hope will be a season to remember in League One.

Having seen his side narrowly miss out on promotion to the Championship in May, Pompey boss Kenny Jackett has been extremely busy during the transfer window so far with no fewer than five players joining the club.

Whereas there is no doubting that these new arrivals have definitely strengthened Portsmouth's squad, it could be argued that the first real test of their credentials will be when the club play their first pre-season game of the summer against University College Dublin on July 10th.

Considering that this, as well as the other six fixtures that Pompey are scheduled to play represent a real opportunity for players to stake their claim for a place in the first-team next season, we have single out three players who could make a lasting impression on Jackett over the coming weeks.

Check them out below...

Sean Raggett

With Matt Clarke's departure last month leaving a huge void for Portsmouth to fill in the heart of defence, it is not at all surprising that Jackett has brought in reinforcements in this position in the form of Paul Downing and Sean Raggett.

Whilst the former of this aforementioned duo will be confident of claiming a starting role having featured regularly at a higher level than the third-tier, the latter may need a stellar showing in pre-season to force his way into contention.

Although Raggett has impressed in the lower divisions before during his time at Lincoln City, the intense competition for places at Pompey means that he cannot afford to get off to a slow start during the upcoming campaign.

Ellis Harrison

Signed from Ipswich Town for an undisclosed fee, Harrison will be aiming to hit the ground running for Pompey following an injury-hit season in which he made just 17 appearances in all competitions.

No stranger to League One, the forward excelled at this particular level for Bristol Rovers during the 2017/18 campaign as he fired in 12 goals whilst also providing five assists for his team-mates.

If Harrison can replicate this kind of form over the course of the next 10 months in a Portsmouth shirt, he should usurp the likes of Brett Pittman and Oliver Hawkins to become the club's first-choice striker.

Ryan Williams

Arguably one of the most eye-catching free agency signings of the summer so far, Ryan Williams' move to Fratton Park could prove to be quite a coup for Portsmouth if his previous escapades in the third-tier are anything to go by.

Fantastic at this level for former side Rotherham United, the winger will be confident that he can thrive under the guidance of Jackett who knows just what it takes to get over the winning line in League One having done so with Millwall and Wolverhampton Wanderers.

However, with Jamal Lowe and Ronan Curtis enjoying superb individual campaigns last year, Williams may have a fight on his hands to secure a place in Pompey's starting eleven next season.
