With Brentford just missing out on the play-off final and now losing successful manager Mark Warburton, whoever success the fan favourite will have positions to strengthen.

The club look set for a new dawn with new manager Marinus Dijkhuizen taking the previously successful reigns. With the club taking on the a different structure with Dijkhuizen taking charge, the club could look to structure a new squad with European talent.

The former Excelsior boss will have a job to do after such a successful regime prior to his arrival, and a major overhaul of all club aspect and playing staff could mean a fresh start.

If the players are to stay on and the 43-year old Dutchman is set to stick with the side he currently possesses, the squad will still need some improvement if they are to challenge for a playoff position in succession. With the club needing players to fill positions in defence, midfield and attack, the English market is saturated with cheap available talent.

Here are 3 players that could improve the already talented bunch at Brentford.

1. Paul McShane

The former Manchester United youth product was a surprise inclusion on Hull City's released list after a six year spell at the club was cut short after relegation.

McShane is a target for Ipswich Town

A Republic of Ireland international, McShane is a fantastic defender and a leader in the defence and would be a perfect addition for an already talented Brentford defence.

McShane is only 29-years-old and still has some of his best years ahead of him and Brentford can take advantage of his current status as a free transfer.

2. Barry Bannan

With only a year left in his contract and an outcast at Palace, Bannan could be available on the cheap and could be a fantastic signing if given the confidence to perform for regularly for a side.

The Scottish midfielder started his career fantastically with some great performances for Aston Villa, having left the club on loan several times. After a move to Palace saw his career fall by the wayside, the 25-year-old still has bags of potential and can be a perfect playmaker for Brentford.

Bannan is a target for Derby and Leeds

Predominantly a central midfielder, Bannan's quick pace and ability to use both feet make him completely versatile. Bannan has skill, technique, vision and a fantastic passing range. His performances brought comments from former boss Gérard Houllier, who likened him to Barcelona pair Xavi and Iniesta.

Bannan could be a fantastic addition to a talented Brentford midfield, with the likes of Judge and Jota, Bannan could make a perfect trio of attacking fluency.

3. Carlton Cole

The former West Ham man has now finished his association with the East London club and is set to look for a new club, with the Championship being a good option for the forward.

The 31-year-old forward has already experienced Championship football, seeing West Ham promoted with 14 goals in his first season in the league.

Carlton Cole could be set for a stint in the Championship

With the goal threat of Andre Gray and the talented midfielders of Jota and Judge, Brentford could do with another striker to pair up with Gray and cause double the trouble.

Cole is a physical forward who can hold up a ball and let players create space for an attack. The former West Ham forward is a constant goal threat and could be the perfect partner for Brentford striker Andre Gray.
