Under manager Gary Rowett, Birmingham City are now widely renowned as a well organised and solid footballing side and, under his stewardship, they have had a brilliant start to the season and currently find themselves sitting in sixth place in the Sky Bet Championship.

The Blues have claimed four wins from their opening nine league games and, more importantly, have only been beaten once, which came at the hands of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

They are currently on a five match unbeaten run, and it appears confidence is high around the club following this weekend's 1-1 draw at Queens Park Rangers.

If Birmingham are to mount a serious promotion push this season, reinforcements to add depth to the squad could be necessary and, with a free agent market bursting with talented players, they certainly have a lot to chose from.

Here, FootballLeagueWorld writer Chris Strawson identifies THREE players, who are currently without a club, that the Blues should sign...

Peter Odemwingie

Birmingham are arguably light in the strikers department this season and, with the emergency loan window being abolished this season, they are either going to have to wait until January or dip into the free agent market.

Former Stoke City and West Bromwich Albion man Peter Odemwingie would be a perfect fit with the Blues and would give them a quality option upfront.

As well as being able to play as a striker, Odemwingie is also a versatile option as he can play on either flank as well as in behind the main striker in a number 10 role.

At the age of 35, he would add masses and masses of experience into the ranks at St Andrew's. He would not only be a great influence on the pitch, he would also be a great influence off it, and would be able to help nurture and develop some of the younger lads around the club.

Joey O'Brien

Full-back Joey O'Brien is still a free agent after his contract expired with West Ham at the end of last season, and should be a player Birmingham City can look at signing to add strength in depth to the squad.

He is a versatile full-back who can play on either flank and would provide good competition for places in the squad.

The 30-year-old is highly experienced and has spent the vast majority of his career in the top-flight of English football with both Bolton Wanderers and West Ham. He has also enjoyed two loan spells with Sheffield Wednesday when they were playing their football in League One.

The former Republic of Ireland international has made over 100 appearances in the Premier League and could be considered a shrewd signing by the Blues should they tie him down to a deal.

Leon Osman

Another free agent who could potentially be on Gary Rowett's radar is 35-year-old Leon Osman.

The former Everton man has been a free agent since the end of last season when his contract at Goodison Park expired.

Barring two brief loan spells with Carlisle United and Derby County in the early stages of his career, Osman has been a one club man having spent 16 seasons with Everton, where he made over 400 senior appearances for the club, scoring 57 goals throughout that time.

The 35-year-old would bring much needed experience into the Birmingham City engine room, and could be a very shrewd signing should Rowett look to explore the option of bringing the former England international to St Andrew's.
