The story of 2018 as told by Aston Villa supporters would be a roller-coaster tale few would believe.

They've gone from almost earning Premier League football, to the brink of financial collapse. They were saved, prompting euphoria, only for the manager to then play his hand badly and leave them in a poor position.

He got the boot, and they're once again on the up, hoping for the Premier League football they crave so desperately.

Dean Smith hasn't had much chance to wheel and deal, he came in after the transfer window and had to work with the tools he had available. That isn't such a bad thing, the Villa squad is packed with talent and he's lifted them to a strong place in the table.

They're still going to be busy in the transfer market though, players will surely come and some will likely leave, looking for a fresh chance elsewhere.

Here's three players we think might leave Villa Park this January.

Lansbury has been given a chance in the last couple of matches, but the truth is he's no closer to regular first team action than he's ever been.

Smith has had a look, but without the benefit of a run of games he won't see him at his best. He'll make a great signing for a Championship struggler and it's likely Villa will go down that route.

They won't want this one to happen, not one bit, but it's very likely Chelsea will recall Tammy Abraham.

He's been sensational, scoring goals and making a real name for himself. If the Blues want to sell, his reputation has never been higher. They might even want him as part of their own squad.

It doesn't bode well for Villa.

Doyle-Hayes is in high demand and we firmly expect him to leave on loan in the first few weeks of the new year.

The Under 23 side is a great place to find your feet, but if you want to truly progress then senior football has to be on the menu.

Villa know that and they'll be looking to get their young player out for the remainder of the season.
