With the Owls enjoying one of their most successful seasons to date under new boss Carlo Carvalhal, the January transfer window was always going to be pivotal for them to see if they could make the right acquisitions to continue their surge towards the play-offs.

The deadline day signing of Aidan McGeady on loan from Everton was undoubtedly one of the big coups of the day, as the club signalled their strong intent for promotion.

Making Gary Hooper's loan spell permanent after six goals in 12 games for the former Norwich man, also made the Hillsborough outfit a team to be wary of going forward.

However, in spite of these two impressive signings, the Yorkshire club could have looked to make some further additions to their squad as they head in to the crucial final period of the Championship, just one point off sixth-placed Birmingham with a game in hand.

Here are THREE players that I think Wednesday could have tried to swoop for on deadline day......

Alan Judge

The Brentford playmaker was the subject of much transfer speculation during the January transfer window, with the Owls strongly linked to the Irish midfielder.

Along with Burnley, they had a bid for the 27-year-old turned down at the start of January and were unable to lure the so-called "Irish Messi" away from Griffin Park as the Bees kept hold of their prized asset.

Judge has scored 12 goals in 28 appearances for the Bees this season, helping them ascend to a comfortable 10th position after a shaky start to the season.

The talented midfield maestro would have been a welcome addition at Hillsborough for the remainder of the season and a player of his quality would have slotted straight into Carvalhal's team.

The signing of McGeady on loan will no doubt help to soften the blow of not getting Judge, but they would have been in a much stronger position in the play-off race if they had been able to secure the services of the Brentford man.

Zach Clough

Clough is another player who has been at the centre of a transfer storm in this window, with Bristol City coming closest to signing the talented 20-year-old who has bags of potential.

With Bolton £179.2m in debt and desperate to sell players to ease their financial woes, Wednesday could have followed Bristol City's suit and tried to prise the youngster away from the Macron.

The Owls came close to signing Mark Davies from the cash-strapped basement club only for the move to fall through due to the player not being able to agree personal terms with the club.

Clough would almost certainly have provided strong competition for Wednesday's two top scorers - Forestieri and Hooper.

Adam Matthews

The out-of-favour Sunderland defender could have provided a useful back-up for the Owls and shored up their defence ready for the run-in.

The former Celtic man has barely been used under Allardyce at the Stadium of Light, who was willing to let the 24-year-old Welshman leave on loan to get some game-time under his belt.

Matthews would have been a handy player to have in the set-up and was wanted by a host of Championship clubs on deadline day.

He could have provided competition for Jack Hunt in the right-back position and with Champions League experience under his belt, he would have easily embraced whatever the Championship had to throw at him.

Wednesday fans are you happy with your side's signings? Do you think that the club has made enough sturdy acquisitions to compete for a chance to be involved in the play-offs? Are there any other players that you would have like to have seen move to Hillsborough on deadline day?
