Sheffield Wednesday are plodding along quite nice in the Championship this season.

The Owls sit just outside the top six and have plenty for new manager Garry Monk to work with heading into what is sure to be a busy few winter months for the Hillsborough based club.

Monk has managed to build a solid base from the back for his team while also ensuring his side are getting among the goals, with 16 scored and only nine conceded so far this campaign.

Wednesday will no doubt be looking to maintain their form in the coming months in the hope that come the January window, they will be in a position to potentially strengthen the squad and make a firm run at the promotion places.

However, funds are not going to be freely available for the Owls boss and it could be the case that he needs to become a bit of a wheeler-dealer. That could mean some of his squad might have to be shown the door to finance some new arrivals.

With that in mind, we looked at THREE Sheffield Wednesday players who could be given the boot come January...

Jordan Rhodes

To say things haven't worked out for Rhodes at Hillsborough would be an understatement.

Ever since making a big-money move from Middlesbrough, he's failed to hit the heights many expected and spent last season out on loan with Norwich.

Wednesday fans probably wouldn't mind seeing Rhodes move to Carrow Road on a permanent basis. He's definitely someone who can bring in some money for the club, while also getting a hefty wage bill off the books in the process.

Morgan Fox

Often, someone who many Owls fans have singled out for poor performances over the years, Fox has been suitably replaced this season at left-back by Liam Palmer.

Palmer, however, is not a natural left-back and if the Owls want to improve the position with someone who can play their naturally, it might be a case of moving Fox out to reinvest in someone else.

Wednesday are a club on the up and while Fox has done his best, the quality hasn't always been there.

Joost Van Aken

The fact that defender Van Aken cannot get into the team despite Tom Lees being out injured suggests how far down the pecking order he is.

Dominic Iorfa has come in, while Julian Borner has already established himself as a crowd favourite and top defender at Championship level.

Van Aken cost the Owls a decent sum of money when he signed a couple of seasons back, so the club would be looking to at least get something back on the big defender if he does indeed move on.
