Rotherham United haven't had the best of starts to this season's Sky Bet Championship, and currently find themselves in the relegation places after suffering a crushing 4-0 defeat at the hands of South Yorkshire rivals Barnsley at the weekend.

Clearly, manager Alan Stubbs has work to do, and bringing a few fresh faces in before the transfer deadline could be the lift that the club requires.

Rotherham have had almost a complete overhaul of the squad since last season, which was demonstrated by the fact that only three starters on Saturday against Barnsley where at the club last season.

Obviously, it will take time for these new signings to gel, but Rotherham remain short in a number of areas on the pitch, and many fans are keen to see the manager strengthen further in what remains of the transfer window.

Here, FootballLeagueWorld writer Chris Strawson identifies THREE players that the Millers should look to bring in...

Lee Gregory

The Lee Gregory - Rotherham United saga has been rumbling on all summer, and now remains just until tomorrow's 11.30pm deadline for the saga to come to a conclusion.

Rotherham have had numerous bids turned down for Millwall's star man, who remain adamant that they would like the Sheffield-born striker to remain at The Den, although Gregory is reportedly seeking a move closer to home.

Manager Stubbs has refused to rule out the Millers making another move for the prolific frontman, and it seems fans will just have to wait and see how this plays out.

Gregory had a hugely prolific season in League One last season, where he netted 20 times, alerting numerous Championship clubs to his attention, including the likes of QPR and Nottingham Forest.

However, it appears that Rotherham are the favourites to sign the 28-year-old should he leave Millwall this summer.

The Millers have just two fit strikers currently at the club, and are in desperate need of reinforcements in that area.

Gary Mackay-Steven

Many Millers fans will agree with me when I say that they could do with one more body in wide areas to increase the competition for places on the flanks.

One player who should be on their radar is Celtic winger Gary Mackay-Steven.

Mackay-Steven has struggled to hold down a regular starting place at Celtic Park since signing from Dundee United in the summer of 2015, and may be available for transfer should the right offer come in for the 25-year-old.

He can play on either flank or even behind the striker, and would add versatility to the squad. Mackay-Steven is a pacey winger who is excellent with the ball at his feet.

He is a good source of goals from the wide areas and, despite failing to hold down a regular starting place at the Scottish giants, he has scored ten goals in 52 appearances for The Bhoys.

Adam Rooney

Rotherham are short in the strikers department at the moment, with only two fit strikers currently at the club in the form of Danny Ward and Jerry Yates.

Therefore, they are in desperate need of reinforcements in this area before tomorrow's 11.30pm deadline, and one striker who should be on their radar is Aberdeen frontman Adam Rooney.

Rooney has been prolific for Aberdeen since signing for the club in 2014. He has made over 80 appearances for the Scottish club, scoring 46 goals in the process, averaging better than one goal every two games.

The 28-year-old also has plenty experience of the English leagues, having represented the likes of Stoke City, Birmingham City, Chesterfield and Oldham Athletic, but has often struggled to score the volume of goals in the English leagues in comparison to when he plays north of the border in Scotland.

But, at the age of 28, Rooney is in his prime years as a footballer, and may be tempted to have another crack at the Championship to prove to any doubters that he has what it takes to be a success south of the border.
