After Rotherham United's miraculous escape from relegation last season the aim for the forthcoming campaign under the stewardship of new manager Alan Stubbs is to push up the league table and consolidate themselves in a comfortable drama free mid table finish.

The former Hibs manager has been working hard on recruitment over the summer and has already brought in Lewis Price, Will Vaulks and Anthony Forde on permanent deals and also Brighton midfielder Jake Forster-Caskey on a season long loan.

Stubbs will be looking for a successful reign as the manager of the Millers to prove he has what it takes to be successful in the Championship following his brilliant Scottish Cup win with Hibernian last season.

This article takes a look at three potential loan signings the Millers could bring in to strengthen their squad....

Grant Ward

Grant Ward is someone who enjoyed a brilliant loan spell with the Millers last season where he spent the full campaign at the New York Stadium. He quickly became a fans favourite after adapting almost immediately to the physical nature of the Championship and was then able to show off his silky dribbling skills and blistering pace that made him such a thorn in the side of the opposition.

Ward's parent club is Tottenham Hotspur where he is a regular for the reserve team although it is unlikely he could fight his way above players such as Christian Eriksen, Mousa Dembele and Dele Alli in the pecking order at White Hart Lane and is potentially someone who Spurs will be looking to loan out to gain first team experience.

Ward made 40 appearances throughout his loan spell with the Millers scoring 2 goals, one of those was a spectacular strike from outside the area against Burnley which led to him picking up the goal of the year award at the Rotherham United end of season awards, where he also picked up the young player of the year award.

Liam Moore

Various reports have surfaced throughout the summer linking Liam Moore with a loan move to various Championship clubs and one club who's name has been consistently linked is that of Rotherham United.

Liam Moore struggled to break into the Leicester City team last season as they stormed to that famous Premier League title that shocked the whole footballing world, he made just one appearance and has fell way down the pecking order under manager Claudio Ranieri.

However, Liam Moore is a player of great pedigree and is someone who has a Championship winners medal to his name as he was part of the Leicester team that won the title in the 2013-2014 season, a campaign in which he was a regular making 30 apperances scoring just the one goal.

Last season he spent a part of the campaign on loan at Championship side Bristol City where he made 10 appearances and it is believed that Leicester will be looking to ship Moore out on a season long loan this time around.

Moore would add healthy competition for places between the likes of Kirk Broadfoot, Richard Wood, Tom Thorpe and Aimen Belaid and would be a quality addition to the Millers backline.

Adam Armstrong

Following the 6-9 month lay off that striker Jonson Clarke-Harris faces it leaves The Millers with just two fit senior strikers in Danny Ward and young unproven striker Jerry Yates and after failed transfer attempts for now Barnsley striker Tom Bradshaw and Millwall frontman Lee Gregory it is clear that Rotherham United are in desperate need of strikers before the campaign kicks off.

One man who could potential fit the bill is talented Newcastle youngster Adam Armstrong, with Armstrong facing competition from Ayoze Perez and new signing Dwight Gayle next season at St James Park it is unlikely that he will be able to force his way into the starting eleven and he may have to look at departing the club on loan to get the first team football he craves.

Armstrong spent last season on loan at League one side Coventry City where he enjoyed a prolific campaign scoring 20 goals in 40 appearances and will now be looking to make a step up and prove he can score goals at Championship level.

Armstrong has also made 15 appearances in the Premier League for Newcastle, however he failed to score in those 15 appearances.
