Reading are currently in a transitional period, they have recently brought back Brian McDermott, and have lost Nick Blackman to Championship promotion challengers Derby County.

The Royals sit 14th in the table, some 11 points off the play-offs where many had tipped them to be this season.

Royals fans are still waiting for the new Brian McDermott era to get going, with only two wins since his return to the club, many fans are sceptical if he was indeed the right man to take Reading up and out of the Championship.

We are now in mid-January and the transfer window is now open, McDermott will be wanting to bring in some new players to put his stamp on the team, this might mean that Reading have to sell some prized assets like Nick Blackman.

Simon Cox

The forward has just come back from a loan spell at relegation threatened Bristol City, however his spell there was far from productive.

He has not scored a single goal for either side this term and has managed just eight goals since his arrival at the Royals.

The Reading FC academy product made a substitute appearance in the Royals' 1-0 defeat to MK Dons at Stadium:MK on Saturday, and it seems he is not in McDermott's immediate first-team plans at all.

Hal Robson-Kanu

Robson-Kanu is a player who has been starting consistently since McDermott took over at Reading.

The 26-year-old forward is being utilised as an out and out striker with Matej Vydra, but many fans of the Berkshire club feel he should be moved on, in order to attain some fresh blood.

He has never seemed to hold down a regular spot in a particular position, and has always more often than not been utilised in array of attacking positions.

Jake Taylor

Another Reading midfielder who has come through the youth system at Reading, and has been sent out on loan 6 times since turning professional.

The 24-year-old midfielder has been out on loan at Scottish Premiership side Motherwell, since the the start of the season, making six starts for the Scottish club.

It is probably best to try and sell him, as it's fairly clear that he won't be featuring in the first team for Reading anytime soon.
