Reading have had a great start to the season, under the new management of former Man United defender Jaap Stam.

Stam was appointed as Reading boss following the sacking of Brian McDermott, 12 new players arrived at the Madejski Stadium, including the likes of Tyler Blackett, Liam Moore and Callum Harriott.

After 2 consecutive seasons of disappointment, in which Reading fans saw their side finish in the bottom half of the Championship, Jaap Stam appears to have turned Reading's fortunes around, and has brought consistency back to the Mad Stad.

Reading are hoping to return to the Premier League within the next few seasons, as Stam builds his own squad.

They've not competed in the Premier League since 2013, when they were relegated from the top flight under Nigel Adkins.

FootballLeagueWorld writer Rob Booth identifies THREE players Reading fans may need to say bye to in January....

Jake Cooper (Loan)

The young centre-back has found it hard to get into the Royals' first-team since the arrival of Liam Moore at the Madejski.

Once a regular starter at the back alongside Paul McShane, Cooper finds himself on the outskirts of the starting eleven.

A loan move to another EFL side in January would probably be beneficial for all parties.

Chris Gunter

Chris Gunter joined Reading in 2012 from Nottingham Forest, and has made well over 100 appearances in a Royals shirt.

The Welsh international, who was part of the Wales squad that reached the Euro 2016 semi finals, has played in every league game for Reading so far this season, helping them climb into the top six.

A fair few Reading fans don't rate Gunter highly, and think he should leave, so in January, Stam might want to bring in one of his own players to add to his squad.

Danny Williams

Danny Williams has been a great player so far this season, making 9 appearances, scoring 1 goal.

However his contract expires at the end of this season, and he may be offloaded in January to raise funds.

Reading may want to sell him in January so they can get a fee for him, instead of letting him go for free.

The American joined the Royals in 2013 from German side Hoffenheim and since joining he has scored 11 goals in all competitions.

He's been a regular in midfield for Reading but if clubs are prepared to sign him, Jaap Stam may want to offload him in January to save him going for free.
