Peterborough United have aspirations of getting promoted to the Championship but their unbeaten run was ended by Doncaster Rovers at the Keepmoat Stadium.

Two points adrift of the play-offs and not having any problems in front of goal has made Peterborough United one of the most entertaining sides to watch in the Football League this season.

A 3-0 win over Sunderland and a 6-0 win over Rochdale have stood out as massive wins for Peterborough this season but after a loss at the weekend the reality of a long League One season hit back.

Narrowly missing out on a play-off place last season will offer extra motivation for Peterborough to put together a  successful season this time around.

Peterborough are well known for producing good players and selling them on for a decent transfer fee, whether they are brought through the academy or picked up from the lower tiers of English football.

Jack Marriott and Britt Assombalonga are two recent examples of players that Peterborough have signed and sold on for considerable fees, something clubs lower down the Football League have to do.

The current Peterborough United side have THREE players who they can't afford to lose this season if promotion is a realistic target...

Marcus Maddison

The attacking midfielder is one of the best players in League One, on his day he has the ability to win a game single-handedly. Left foot or right foot, Maddison can create or score with either.

Maddison has already chipped in with five goals and six assists this campaign proving his quality and his worth to this Peterborough team. To have the start he has had is naturally turning Championship clubs heads. Maddison has had his suitors for the last couple of seasons.

Whether any clubs will come in for the midfielder in January remains to be seen but his current form is nothing short of excellent and if he stays Peterborough will be hoping he can inspire a promotion campaign.

At 25, Maddison may be tempted by a Championship move as he nears his 'prime years' but at this stage it is paper talk and conjecture.

Ivan Toney

A striker in unstoppable form this season, like Maddison has really impressed and will be hot property if he keeps his form when the January transfer window opens.

Toney has scored eight goals in nine League One appearances this season and could well follow in the footsteps of afore mentioned Marriott and Assombalonga.

Having played for a number of Football League clubs Peterborough fans will be hoping Toney will be staying at least for this season to help the club to the Championship.

Mo Eisa

A striker/winger who joined this summer from Bristol City has been in fine form so far this season. Like Toney, Eisa has been dangerous in front of goal scoring six goals in eight league appearances.

Eisa's pace is so dangerous, couple that with a goal scoring ability and Eisa could be a danger for any opposition in the league playing from wide or down the middle.
