Norwich City have had a solid start to this season's Sky Bet Championship.

They sit in mid table going into the first international break of the season, as they look to bounce straight back to the Premier League at the first time of asking following their disappointing relegation from the top-flight last season.

Norwich have lost their prized asset this summer in the form of Nathan Redmond, yet they did get a good fee for the wideman, as they raked in £11 million from the sale.

The money from the Redmond sale has helped The Canaries strengthen their squad during this transfer window, which has seen them bring in the likes of Alex Pritchard, Sergi Canos, Michael McGovern and Nelson Oliveira.

Here, FootballLeagueWorld writer Chris Strawson identifies THREE potential deals that Norwich City should have been looking to complete on deadline day...

Zach Clough

Bolton Wanderers forward Zach Clough is one player that Norwich should have potentially shown interest in during transfer deadline day, as it was a very realistic opportunity to prise him away from Bolton after their relegation to League One.

Clough burst onto the scene towards the back end of the 2014/15 campaign, when he scored a remarkable six goals in ten games for the Bolton senior team. The form he showed towards the end of that campaign led to him being a regular fixture in the starting line-up throughout the 2015/16 season, when he made 27 appearances and scored seven goals. He is an excellent finisher and has the knack of being able to stay ice cool in front of goal, despite his lack of first team experience. Clough is more than just a goal poacher though. He is excellent with the ball at his feet and has very good dribbling ability. He also enjoys dropping deep and dictating play, and is very good at linking the midfield to the forward line. Clough has been touted as a potential England international in the future, and I’m sure many scouts will be tasked with keeping an eye on his development over the coming months and years.

Gboly Ariyibi

Chesterfield wideman Ariyibi had no shortage of suitors during the transfer window, with Brentford and Derby County amongst the teams rumoured to be showing interest in him.

Despite the intense transfer speculation, Chesterfield managed to hold onto their star man, and have secured him until at least January.

Ariyibi is clearly a player of great potential, which has been recognised by the American national soccer team for whom he has earned caps at Under-20 and Under-23 level.

The former Southampton trainee is currently playing his club football in League One with Chesterfield, where he has been since 2014.

Throughout his time at the Proact Stadium, he has made 65 senior appearances for the club, scoring four goals in the process.

He has been a regular in Chesterfield's solid start in League One this season, having already racked up five appearances in all competitions.

Rickie Lambert

Rickie Lambert

Another player Norwich should have been looking at on deadline day is experienced striker Rickie Lambert.

Lambert was part of a deal on deadline day, which saw him sign for Cardiff City on a two-year deal, although many Norwich fans would be right to question whether they could have pipped the Welsh club to his signature had they expressed an interest in the former England international.

Lambert is a proven goalscorer at Championship level, and his goals could have potentially been the difference between promotion or another season in the second tier.

The big target man was part of the set-up at Southampton for five years, where he enjoyed the most successful spell of his career.

He was a key part of the squads that achieved back-to-back promotions from League One into the Premier League, and also was a huge part in helping them consolidate as a top-flight team.

In 235 appearances for Southampton, Lambert netted a remarkable 117 times and, overall in his career, he has appeared 680 times for various clubs, scoring 237 goals.

Lambert would have brought masses of experience to the club, and could have been a real shrewd acquisition by manager Alex Neil.
