The 2016/17 Championship league season is drawing ever closer, and it is set to be an extremely crucial one for Norwich City after their heartbreaking relegation from the Premier League last season.

Manager Alex Neil has already made a number of changes to his first team squad in preparation for the new campaign, with Sergi Canos arriving from Liverpool for £2.5 million and Michael McGovern joining on a free transfer.

A number of players have also departed the club with 11 players being shown the exit door including a number of well-known first team players, such as Nathan Redmond, Jake Kean, and Gary O'Neil.

Football League World writer Steve Day picks THREE players that the Canaries should look to sign on loan, before their first Championship game of the season to strengthen their squad....

Alex Pritchard

Rumours circulating around the potential departure of Robbie Brady from Norwich City following his impressive displays at the 2016 European Championship during the summer, will have Neil thinking about the possibility of needing an extra wide man.

Pritchard is a highly-rated youth prospect at Tottenham.

He has made a couple of Premier League appearances for Spurs over the last couple of seasons and enjoyed a productive loan spell at Championship side Brentford two seasons ago, and had a stint with Premier League club West Brom last season.

The 23-year-old is a former England Under-20 and England Under-21 youth player but has reached a period in his career where sitting on the bench and playing with the reserves is hampering his progress.

A loan move to the Canaries could be exactly what is needed.

Tyias Browning

One major weakness of Norwich City last season was their defence.

The Canaries conceded 67 goals in 38 league games and it could have been worse had January signing Timm Klose not helped to tighten things up before his injury.

A number of defenders could be moved on before the start of the season, so bringing in a loan signing to bolster the defensive ranks could be required.

Browning can play across the back four and is a very decent youth talent.

The 22-year-old Everton player was only used in 6 competitive matches last season for the Toffees and this season he will find game time equally hard to come by, as he battles with the likes of Leighton Baines, Seamus Coleman, Bryan Oviedo, and Brendan Galloway for starts in the line-up.

Chuba Akpom

Arsenal youth player Akpom has promised so much for so long but during loan spells with Brentford, Coventry, Nottingham Forest, and Hull City he has failed to show the clinical side of his game that he has expressed so impressively at international youth level.

At various levels of England international youth, Akpom has scored 20 goals in 43 appearances.

This includes scoring 3 goals in 4 games for England Under-21s. The 20 year old was left out of Gareth Southgate's Toulon winning squad this summer but he is still considered to be a brilliant prospect within the set-up.

Even though Akpom's loan spell with Hull City last season saw him fail to hit the net with regularity due to manager Steve Bruce preferring to use Abel Hernandez as his leading front man, the Arsenal player did show sparks of his potential and one example of that was when he bagged a hat trick in a 3-1 away win over League One side Bury in the FA Cup.
