It has been a summer of change so far for Queens Park Rangers, who are embarking on a new era under Steve McClaren next season.

Ian Holloway led QPR to 16th in the Sky Bet Championship table last season, with his side comfortably away from the Championship’s relegation battle, which was some way beneath them.

Despite that, there was been a managerial change at Loftus Road, with McClaren returning to QPR and the Championship.

McClaren’s most recent job in the Championship came with Derby County, where he managed to get a talented Rams squad challenging for promotion.

It is likely that QPR’s new boss will want to make some changes to the squad he has inherited at Loftus Road, with making an impact in the transfer window surely high on his agenda.

Of course, exits will be on the cards too, and with that in mind, we take a look at THREE players McClaren needs to be axing…

Washington hasn’t been a flop at Loftus Road, but he hasn’t had the impact many thought he would.

The Northern Irish striker has managed just 13 goals across two Championship campaigns, and although we’ve seen flashes of brilliance, it’s been a tough couple of years.

McClaren could look to freshen things up.

Some would see Smithies’ departure as a disaster, particularly after his performances in recent years.

However, across the Championship we are seeing a number of clubs struggling financially, which is something QPR will be well aware of.

Smithies has competition from Matt Ingram now, which might force McClaren to cash in on his goalkeeper to help balance the books.

Like Washington, Sylla’s impact at Loftus Road has hardly been impressive, with Matt Smith the forward taking the majority of the praise in the last 12 months.

McClaren will want to freshen up his squad, but to do so, he is going to have to make some big decisions on departures.

Sacrificing someone like Sylla could be an option.
