For the first time in a long time, Leeds United have made the English football community sit up and take notice of them for all the right reasons

Marcelo Bielsa arrived at the club in the summer and has transformed what looked like a fairly dreadful squad last season into one of the most impressive units outside of the Premier League.

They currently sit in third place in the table behind just Sheffield United and West Bromwich Albion who occupy first and second respectively.

But despite their success, you can bet that the fans will be looking at certain players in the Championship and above with a pang of regret.

Specifically, players who were once part of the Elland Road set-up, but were moved on after being deemed surplus to requirements.

Here, then, are three players the Whites let go of far too soon.

The centre-back has become one of the Championship's best since moving to Sheffield Wednesday.

He was jeered relentlessly by the Elland Road faithful during his time at Leeds and there was a palpable sense of jubilation when he left.

Although the current Leeds defence is pretty good, there is no doubt that a player of Lee's quality would be very welcome.

They only had him for a season before letting him go, but Billy Sharp went on to prove he still had an awful lot to offer.

In his next season, he scored 21 goals and won the golden boot in League One before bagging 30 in the same division the following season as the Blades won the league.

He racked up a healthy 13 Championship goals last season and is already on seven for the season this time around.

After just one full season with the Whites, Peltier was shipped out on loan to Nottingham Forest before signing for Huddersfield when his contract at Elland Road expired.

Now, he is playing in the Premier League with Cardiff City and with Leeds' problems with depth at full-back he would be a very useful player to have kept hold of.
