There's just under a week left until the first game of the season where Ipswich Town welcome Barnsley to Portman Road.

With the season coming very close, Mick McCarthy will be looking to finalise a few more deals prior to the first game.

In the last three seasons, Ipswich have finished in the top half of the table but they were left disappointed last time around as they finished just one place outside of the play-off places.

The fans will be hoping that they can see their side push for a play-off place yet again but more signings may be needed if that is to happen.

There are positions on the field that could definitely be improved on and in order to do this, Ipswich could dip into the transfer market to bring somebody to the club on a temporary basis.

Stephen Kingsley

Ipswich's current left-back, Jonas Knudsen, is showing signs of improvement but he is something of a liability.

One player who they could look to bring in is Swansea City full-back Stephen Kingsley.

The 22-year-old spent some of last season on loan at Crewe Alexandra but then returned to the Liberty Stadium and made 4 Premier League appearances for the Swans.

After spending time in League One and featuring in the top tier, the next step in the Scot's development could be to go out on loan to the Championship. The Tractor Boys should look to make themselves his next destination.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles

One position which Ipswich are massively lacking in is wingers. Last season they had Bournemouth's Ryan Fraser on loan but following his impressive season it seems unlikely that he will return.

However, another loanee from last season is Arsenal's Maitland-Niles. Mick McCarthy is keen to bring the 18-year-old back to Portman Road after he also impressed.

The England U19 international played 32 times for McCarthy's side next season, during which he scored 2 and assisted a further 3.

Isaiah Brown

Another winger who could join on loan is Chelsea's Isaiah Brown, who played in the England U19 European Championships alongside Ainsley Maitland-Niles.

The 19-year-old spent the last season on loan at Vitesse Arnhem where he featured in 24 games for the Dutch side.

After impressing in Europe, the next step for the youngster could be for him to gain experience in the English leagues with Ipswich Town.
