Fulham had a desperately disappointing campaign last year despite having a talented squad on paper, including top strikers Moussa Dembele and Ross McCormack.

Despite restructuring in the summer, they struggled throughout the season, relying on the lethal partnership between Dembele and McCormack to keep them safe from relegation.

Their defence was abysmal, with new signing Richard Stearman failing to solidify the back line, and all their centre-backs flattered to deceive, with Fernando Amorebieta, Nikolay Bodurov and Tim Ream failing to establish themselves.

Michael Madl looked a more solid option towards the end of the season, earning him a permanent move, but Fulham will need more defensive options if they are to succeed next season, but the signing of versatile defender Tomas Kalas from Chelsea will help them achieve that.

Some positive attacking reinforcements like Sone Aluko will help as well, whilst the signing of goalkeeper David Button may have solved their number one problem.

Under Slavisa Jokanovic, the squad looks more balanced and prepared for a possible top six push next season.

Here, FootballLeagueWorld writer Michael Hasan identifies THREE players that they should loan in before their opening game against Newcastle United on Friday...

Patrick Bamford

One of the final pieces of the jigsaw missing is a striker, and Fulham could look to West London rivals Chelsea as a possible solution.

Last season, they had the lethal partnership of Dembele and McCormack, who scored 40 goals between them and kept them up.

But after Dembele was sold to Celtic and with McCormack rumoured to be leaving, they need new blood up front.

Bamford is an experienced Championship striker, scoring 18 goals for Middlesbrough in the 14/15 season, as well as winning the Championship Player of the Year award.

He flopped at Premier League clubs Crystal Palace and Norwich City last season and needs regular matches at a Championship club to get back on track.

A small trip across West London could do that for him.

Michael Hector

hectorrrrr

The young Jamaican defender was a surprise purchase by Jose Mourinho towards the end of the January transfer window.

The former Reading man has experience in the Championship, making over 50 appearances for the Royals, but the strange move to Chelsea leaves him short of game time.

He spent last season on loan at Reading and is a very competent centre back at Championship level, and Fulham are in desperate need of defenders.

All of their centre backs flopped last season, apart from Madl at the end, with Stearman a big disappointment.

They have already raided Chelsea for Kalas, and should do again to give themselves more options at the back.

James Husband

husband

The Middlesbrough left back is out of favour at the Riverside Stadium, with Husband failing to make a single appearance for them last season.

He spent last season on loan at Fulham and Huddersfield Town, impressing in both spells, and could be a more permanent option for Fulham next season.

Luke Garbutt was the regular starter but struggled to get to grips with it, and was part of a very leaky Fulham defence. Now that he is gone, Fulham are without a left back except Scott Malone.

But Husband has the pace and ball control to forge ahead of Malone in the pecking order, and a move to Craven Cottage for the 22-year-old could do him the world of good.
