Charlton's summer is due to get worse with the departure of another key player imminent, as Joe Aribo is set to undergo a medical at Rangers ahead of a move to Scotland, report The Evening Standard.

The 22-year-old has been a real bright spark for Charlton and was monumental in helping them towards promotion last season, but he could leave The Valley for peanuts with his contract due to expire.

Due to his age, Charlton will get some compensation for his departure, but it will likely be for a lot less that what he is worth, similar to Preston signing Patrick Bauer.

Aribo played 39 games for The Addicks last season, scoring an impressive nine goals and making five assists, but his presence on the pitch proved more effective than what stats show.

His athleticism was a great asset for Lee Bowyer's team, and the way he allowed Charlton to get up the pitch was great in keeping pressure off the defence. Added to that, his ability to beat a defender and find a team-mate meant he was a great threat, and a player who will be difficult to replace.

However, it looks like he will need replacing, but who could Charlton bring in? Here are three possible signings we think they should look at...

Kasey Palmer

Palmer is a different attacking midfielder to Aribo, but he has proved over the past few seasons that he has real quality at Championship level.

He probably proved most effective when playing in the Huddersfield side which was promoted in 2017. He suited their passing style and provided that attack with something different. Like Aribo he can glide past defenders but is a better passer of the ball.

With Lyle Taylor and Macauley Bonne up front Palmer could prove very useful. He likes to play strikers in behind the defence and also possesses pace of his own - which could prove very effective for The Addicks, particularly on the counter-attack.

Harrison Reed

This is a bit of a surprising one as Reed and Aribo are very different. Reed tends to play a lot more deeper but that may be better for Charlton in the Championship, particularly if they play 4-4-2.

Despite that, Reed proved last season that he can be effective going forward. He showed he has a dynamism to his game at Blackburn last season, where he made seven appearances.

Bowyer could choose to play him in a more advanced role next season, and although he lacks Aribo's pace he makes up for it with his intelligence, work rate and passing ability.

Josh Onomah

Onomah, like Reed and Palmer, might be available on loan next season, which makes him a more realistic for The Addicks, who according to Bowyer will have the lowest budget in the division.

The 22-year-old would be a bit of gamble for Charlton. He did really well on loan at Aston Villa in the 2017/18 season but then followed that up with a forgettable spell at Sheffield Wednesday last season where he only made 15 appearances.

However, his pace and dynamism could prove very effective at The Valley, and if Bowyer takes him under his wing he could get the best out of him, just like he did with Aribo.
