Cardiff City currently sit in seventh position in the Championship and with controversial Bluebirds owner Vincent Tan issuing harsh cut backs on the club's finances, it is hard to tell what the Bluebirds will be able to spend in the next transfer window.

Russell Slade’s term as Cardiff boss cannot be compared with both Malky Mackay and Solskajaer tenures, after both managers had a reasonable amount of financial backing to build their teams.

Vincent Tan has recently revealed that he will be backing Russell in the January window, although it is hard to tell whether he means in a monetary sense or within a recruitment sense.

In the summer, the Bluebirds only managed to bring in centre back Gabriel Tamas, highly-rated Nigerian defender Semi Ajayi from Arsenal following his loan spell at the club last season and mysterious French striker Idriss Saadi, who likes to operate in the lead striker role.

There is no doubting the quality that Cardiff City have in their ranks, especially in front of goal although we are yet to see this theory in action with the likes of Federico Macheda currently injured, after needing surgery to repair a disc injury, former Chesterfield striker Eoin Doyle currently out on loan with Championship club Preston North End.

Here is THREE Attacking players which Cardiff City could turn to in January to bolster the Championship club’s attack.....

Hugo Rodallega

The Colombian striker signed for Turkish outfit Akhisar Belediyespor on a free transfer, in the summer after the 30 year old was shown the exit door by Championship club Fulham, despite scoring 11 goals in 38 games for the London Club last season.

During Hugo’s time at the London club, Rodallega made a total of 75 appearances, scoring just 15 times after he joined from former Premier League outfit Wigan Athletic.

The Colombian played a significant part in the Lactic' battles with relegation during their time in the Premier League and there is no doubting the former Premier League goal scorer’s quality in front of goal ,which could benefit the Bluebirds front line, especially if Russell Slade could combine the pace and finishing of Rodallega with Trinidadian Kenwyne Jones’s ability to hold the ball up and invite runners from midfield.

The wage demands of the former Premier League forward may be slightly higher than Vincent Tan will be comfortable with, following the extreme cost cutting Russell Slade has been plagued with since he took over the South Wales club, but with a proven record and ability of finding the back of the net in open play and with the aerial deliveries which Peter Whittingham has in his locker, Rodallega could be a perfect fit for the Bluebirds.

Lewis McGugan

Lewis McGugan is part of the furniture in the Championship -  the 27-year-old attacking midfielder has spent his career at established second tier teams Nottingham Forest, Watford and currently Sheffield Wednesday, where he secured a permanent move to Hillsborough following two successful loan periods at the south Yorkshire club, where he made a total of 22 appearances, finding the net three times from midfield in the process.

Goals from Midfield have been drastically low for the Bluebirds for some time, with Peter Whittingham, Joe Ralls, Aaron Gunnarson and Kagisho Dikgacoi all struggling to significantly contribute to the goals this season, despite the obvious quality and this would need to improve soon if Russell Slade's team where going to mount a promotion challenge and successfully gain a top six place.

McGugan featured a high number of times in his first season with Watford ,but was quickly deemed surplus to requirements in their last Championship campaign, before being loaned to Wednesday before joining permanently this season.

McGugan, has had a difficult and frustrating season for Sheffield Wednesday caused by an increase in quality within the ranks after a successful summer of recruitment by Carlos Carvalhal, which allowed high quality players including Barry Bannan to join the club following his loan spell at Bolton Wanderers last season.

This has meant that McGugan has only featured a total of seven times in all competitions, where he scored the winning goal for Wednesday in the Capital One Cup against Newcastle.

The English midfielder signed a three-year deal at Wednesday in the summer, and is perceived to be happy in South Yorkshire although with the lower than expected game time he has been given this season by Carvalhal, there could potentially be room for a short loan deal to be agreed by the Bluebirds, allowing them to bolster options within midfield and hopefully increase the creativity that the squad currently lacks, and increase the goal tally from the middle of the park.

Conor McAleny

The highly–rated 23-year-old forward, spent a short term loan with the Bluebirds last season which started in January before returning to the Toffees in May.

McAleny, made a total of eight appearances for the Bluebirds, scoring two goals to help the former Premier League club remain in the division, after a torrid start to the campaign under former Manchester United striker Ole Gunnar Solskajaer’s management.

McAleny has spent time with Charlton Athletic on loan this season starting on September 14, where he made a total of six appearances, before the Addicks decided to cut short the forward's loan agreement.

The Bluebirds and McAleny would both benefit from another loan deal after Conor was sent back to Everton before the end of the deal, and therefore would benefit from some fresh game time.

McAleny would potentially welcome a return to South Wales due to him knowing what to expect after spending time there last term, and with Cardiff currently struggling to find the back of the net, McAleny could bolster manager Russell Slade’s options going forward, allowing the English coach to change to a more attacking and exciting system.
