Sky Bet Championship side Burnley managed by Sean Dyche have had a successful campaign so far, the club are sitting 4th in the Championship table and are in a strong position to finish in the play-offs.

They are no stranger to talented footballers with many currently residing within their Championship squad, such as Joey Barton, Tom Heaton and Tendayi Darikwa - although, they will probably have regrets about some of the players they have sold in the past and have gone onto better things.

Some of the players that have left Turf Moor over the years have built successful careers in the top flight, whilst others represent various clubs in the second and third tier of English football.

After harsh restrictions on spending during their Premier League season, which finished with relegation and several outgoing players, Sean Dyche would love to be able to list some of the players that have departed over the years in his current squad.

With promotion rivals Derby and Middlesbrough spending big throughout both transfer windows, Burnley could do with the players that are going to be featured below.

Charlie Austin

Highly-rated Charlie Austin joined Championship side Burnley back in 2011 from League Two Swindon Town, after scoring 17 goals in 31 appearances, quickly establishing him as a hot-shot striker.

Scoring on his Championship debut with Burnley proved that the step up wasn’t a problem, as the English forward finished the campaign with 17 goals before setting the division alight in his second season at Turf Moor, with an astounding 28 goals, opening the door for his switch to Harry Redknapp’s QPR, who were just relegated from the Premier League.

During his debut campaign in the top flight, Austin proved that he was a proven goal scorer after scoring 18 Premier League goals, and he inevitably earned his recent switch to Southampton.

Kieran Trippier

English right-back Kieran Trippier spent a successful four years with Burnley, after joining from Manchester City for an undisclosed fee where he graduated from the club’s youth set up.

Whilst at Burnley, Trippier made 145 appearances scoring five goals, and was one of the club’s best performers during their promotion winning campaign under Dyche.

Following his debut campaign in the Premier League, Trippier caught the eye of Tottenham Hotspur making the move for £3.6million to become a backup for Kyle Walker.

He has made 14 appearances for Spurs this season, mainly featuring in the club’s Europa League campaign and has also managed to show his quality when featuring in the Premier League this season, scoring one goal.

Jay Rodriguez

26-year-old Jay Rodriguez graduated from the Burnley FC youth setup and managed to successfully implement himself into the first team picture, following loans to Stirling and Barnsley.

During his first full season at Turf Moor, Rodriguez managed to score a respectable total of 15 goals in 48 appearances in all competitions, and managed to improve in the following campaign scoring 21 goals in 41 appearances, allowing him to build a good reputation throughout the football league.

Prior to leaving Turf Moor, the talented forward was subject to bids from the likes of Cardiff City, before opting to join Southampton.

Despite his big money move, Rodriguez only managed nine goals in 37 appearances during his debut campaign, before his breakthrough campaign scoring 17 goals in 40 appearances, allowing him to gain his first England cap.

Rodriguez suffered anterior cruciate knee ligament which has sidelined him for over a year, although once he is able to fully return to St Mary’s, there is no doubt that he would have a significant impact.
