After losing out on a first ever promotion to the Premier League last season, Brighton have started this year in impressive fashion.

They currently sit 4th in the table with 21 points from their opening 11 games but Chris Hughton will know that his side still has a lot of work to do this year.

Last season the Seagulls came agonisingly close to automatic promotion, finishing 3rd behind Middlesbrough on goal difference.

They lost their play-off semi-final to Sheffield Wednesday over the two legs and were consequently consigned to another year in the second tier.

Hughton seems to be putting Brighton's past woes behind him, though, and the South Coast outfit have started their promotion campaign very positively.

Their squad is mostly unchanged and they have added a few new recruits to help boost their chances of promotion this season.

They also have some deadwood in the side, too, and they should have sold these THREE players in the summer...

Elvis Manu

Elvis Manu joined Brighton last summer but it hasn't worked out for him in England.

The former Netherlands under-21 international, who also qualifies to play for Ghana, has scored just once - during a League Cup match against Colchester - in English football and had an unfruitful spell on loan with Huddersfield.

The diminutive 23-year-old is clearly not suited to the English game so should return to the continent to reignite his career.

Richie Towell

Richie Towell has played just twice for Brighton since joining in November 2015.

The former Republic of Ireland international joined from Dundalk after a spell in Scotland and has managed just one FA Cup game and the play-off semi-final.

Both games have ended in loss and the 25-year-old midfielder probably needs to leave to further his career.

Chris O'Grady

Chris O'Grady has never really got going at Brighton.

The Seagulls didn't manage to get rid of the 30-year-old in the summer on a permanent transfer but he seems to have bedded in nicely at Burton Albion so maybe a deal can be reached in January.

The journeyman centre forward hasn't produced the goods at Brighton, only scoring once in over thirty appearances for the club.
