Brentford added just two new signings in the January transfer window, bringing in Nathan Fox on a free from Cray Wanderers, as well as West Ham United's Emmanuel Onariase.

The Bees have seen five players head for the exits at Griffin Park though, with James Tarkowski and Toumani Diagouraga both joining Championship rivals, while Montell Moore, Ryan Williams and Josh Laurent have all been released.

Brentford made it into the play-offs last season, but are off the pace this term, with their 40 points leaving them 11th in the standings - eight points outside the top six.

Having changed manager twice since the end of last season, Brentford fans may have been surprised not to see Dean Smith adding to his squad towards the end of the window, particularly with so many players moving away.

Tom Bradshaw

Walsall striker Tom Bradshaw was tipped to follow Smith to Griffin Park when the manager swapped the Saddlers for the Bees in November, but the Welsh forward remains with the League One side.

Midfielder Alan Judge has impressed in front of goal this season, scoring 12 times so far, but the club have looked like a side that still miss Andre Gray at times this campaign, having sold last year's leading scorer to Burnley in the summer.

Bradshaw has been in fine form so far this season, scoring 14 goals in 30 appearances, but has struggled since Smith's departure, netting just twice in seven games since the boss moved on.

Walsall insisted that no bids for the forward were accepted on deadline day, but Bristol City were reported to be in talks with the League One side, which suggests they were at least willing to consider a late sale.

Paddy McNair

Brentford have the worst defensive record of any side in the top half of the Championship table, and with Tarkowski leaving, it was a surprise not to see the club adding defensively.

Manchester United defender Paddy McNair was thought to be keen to leave Old Trafford in search of regular first-team action in a bid to secure a place in Northern Ireland's Euro 2016 squad.

The 20-year-old has been used sparingly by Louis van Gaal, playing just seven times for the Premier League side this season.

McNair is a strong defender who can play at centre-back and on the right, doesn't shy away from making a tackle and can play the ball out from the back, so would be well suited to the Championship.

Alex Pritchard

pritchard

Tottenham Hotspur winger Alex Pritchard had a successful loan spell with Brentford last season, which was expected to set him up for a role with the first team at White Hart Lane this year.

However, the 22-year-old has been out for three months with injury, resulting in the Premier League side letting him leave on loan again, spending the rest of the season with West Brom.

Brentford would have faced a battle to re-sign Pritchard ahead of a top-flight side, but the chance to get back to match fitness in familiar surroundings could have interested the former England Under-21 international.

Having scored 12 goals and recorded seven assists, Pritchard is certainly the kind of player the Bees could use to try to close the gap to the playoff places, potentially creating chances for Lasse Vibe and Marco Djuricin up front.
