With a colossal summer of spending, Aston Villa fans will be expecting nothing less than a complete blitz on the Championship this campaign.

It was a dismal campaign for the Villans last term, where they only picked up 3 wins in the Premier League, and inevitably culminated in relegation.

However with the signings of Bristol City's Jonathan Kodjia, and Fulham's Ross McCormack, the Villa Park faithful couldn't have dreamed of a better strike partnership to fire them back into the Premier League.

It hasn't started off in the greatest fashion though, after just one win, two draws, and two losses.

Here, FLW writer George Harbey identifies THREE players Villa boss Roberto Di Matteo should have looked to sign before the 11pm deadline on Wednesday night.....

Ravel Morrison

Morrison is no stranger to the Champioship, having endured enjoyed an excellent loan spell at QPR in the 13/14 campaign, where the attacking midfielder scooped up a Player of the Month award and won the Sky Bet Championship play-offs.

However, the 23-year-old now finds himself plying his trade at Lazio, where he has only made 3 appearances since joining from West Ham in 2015.

Morrison was subject to serious interest from many Championship clubs, and he would have been the perfect player to start in behind the prolific Kodjia and McCormack.

Matt Miazga

Although Villa are not short in depth when it comes to defenders, however after conceding 5 goals in 5 games in the league already, it's a position worth strengthening.

Roberto Di Matteo should have been tempted to add Miazga to his ranks, and replace the deadwood from last term of Joleon Lescott who left for AEK Athens, and Micah Richards.

Miazga recently secured a loan move to Vitesse on loan on deadline day, however the Italian boss should have really looked to bring in the highly rated American.

Jason Denayer

Like Miazga, Denayer secured a loan switch to Sunderland on deadline day.

After enduring two impressive loan spells at Celtic and Galatasaray, it seems very unjustified as to why the 21 year old Belgian hasn’t made a breakthrough into Manchester City’s starting 11 thus far in his career.

Scooping up Celtic’s Young Player of the Year award in their own championship winning 14/15 campaign, the commanding centre-half would have been an excellent coup for Di Matteo, and with him not being evident in Pep Guardiola’s plans, could have been a potentially brilliant loan signing.

So...What do you think Villa fans? Would you agree with these 3 suggestions? Would you have liked to seen Di Matteo bring in any other signings? Leave your suggestions and thoughts in the comments below!
