It's relegation for the first time in modern history for Aston Villa, who'll have to deal with a rebuild this summer.

With Roberto Di Matteo at the helm, assisted by Steve Clarke, there's an experienced duo overseeing the enhancement of this Villa squad, whom fans are beginning to see as potential promotion candidates on the same level as Newcastle United.

This comes after plenty tipped them for a double relegation down to the depths of League One, as the level of their squad last year was so terrible.

But it doesn't look that way and they seem like one of the more likely promotion chasers, with big transfer plans to get them back on track, which could involve raids on some of the Premier League's biggest clubs.

Manchester United are a side with an enormous squad, filled with players with promising futures, who could use spells in the Championship or moves away permanently.

Here, FootballLeagueWorld writer Charlie Firth identifies THREE Manchester United players who Villa could eye up...

Adnan Januzaj

After storming onto the scene with a double against Sunderland in the 2013/14 Premier League under David Moyes, Januzaj has since gone off the boil after being labelled as one of Europe's brightest young prospects.

He had a poor loan spell at Borussia Dortmund last season and probably won't work his way into the Manchester United under Jose Mourinho this year, and will likely be loaned out again.

A move into the Championship would be a fine way for him to learn the English game and get him prepared for life as a Manchester United player, putting him amongst the rough and tumble of English football.

Paddy McNair

Paddy McNair has never seen life away from Manchester United and, now at 21-years-old, he may be getting too old to be considered a promising youngster, and will need to get to a level where he's in the United first team.

Whether Villa can bring him in permanently or on loan, the Northern Ireland international would be a fine signing to sure up Villa's leaky defence.

Unless McNair impresses Mourinho this summer, you wonder if he has a long term future at Manchester United, and a move to Villa could set him on his way.

James Wilson

Quite surprisingly, as part of Jose Mourinho's summer overhaul at United, a number of youngsters are expected to be moved on, and amazingly James Wilson is one of those on the list.

He is seen as one of England's most promising striking prospects, but after a pretty bland spell with Brighton last year, the signs are not looking good for his Manchester United future.

Any side in the Championship who has the option of bringing in Wilson absolutely should.

Even if he isn't now, he will be an excellent striker in the future, and one whom Villa should definitely look at.
