The 2016/17 Premier League season has finally kicked off and after the opening few weekend there will be a number of players wondering what the future holds for them at club level as they might have missed out on selection for the squad in the first few rounds of action.

A number of teams have worked tirelessly to improve their squads in the top flight but the flip side of those arrivals is a growing list of players that are not longer needed at their clubs and are likely to soon be moved on.

As a result, there will be a host of Championship sides that will be watching closely as teams in the Premier League look to complete their squads by moving the dispensable players on to other teams over the coming weeks.

In this article, Football League World writer Steve Day picks THREE players that he thinks should depart their current Premier League clubs and seek a move to Championship new boys Aston Villa...

Darron Gibson

Darron Gibsond

Gibson's career was one that promised so much back when he made his debut for Manchester United back on 15th November, 2008 but it is a case of failing to fulfill his potential after leaving Old Trafford for Everton back in January 2012.

It had looked like his move to the Toffees would be a positive one as he proved his worth in his first season with the club. Unfortunately, he only made one league appearance during the 2013/14 season after suffering cruciate knee ligament damage when on international duty with Republic of Ireland.

Gibson has never really recovered from that injury and has found first team football tough to find in an Everton midfield where he was competing with the likes of Ross Barkley, Tom Cleverley, Gareth Barry, and James McCarthy. A move to a team like Villa could allow Gibson the chance to rebuild his career and still return to play in the top flight in the near future.

Sheyi Ojo

The 19-year-old Ojo had appeared to be starting to feature more in Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool side last season making 8 league appearances for the Reds after an impressive loan spell with Championship side Wolves earlier in the season.

Unfortunately for Ojo, Klopp has invested in his midfield options over the summer with Sadio Mane signing from Southampton for £34 million and Georginio Wijnaldum joining from Newcastle for £25 million.

This could signal an end, or at least a delay, in Ojo's progression within the Liverpool side and after showing he can deliver the goods at Championship level it would not do him any harm at all to seek regular first team football with a side like the Villans.

Angelino

One of the areas Aston Villa could do with strengthening is in defence. They have added the £12 million Ross McCormack to bolster their front line and they remain short on options in the back-line in the event of an injury or two.

Angelino might not be the most well-known of the youth prospects at Manchester City but the 19-year-old spent last season on loan with MLS side New York City and did enough to receive positive reviews from fans and pundits alike.

His raw pace and ability to defend and attack in equal quality makes him a highly-rated prospect at the Etihad Stadium. He would offer himself as an option at both left back and left wing in a Villa side that needs more versatility. He is also in desperate need of experience within the English league system to get used to the physical side of the game.

What do you think Villa fans? Would you welcome these three players to your club? Are there any other players you think would be good fits? Let us know below.
