The rebuilding job at Coventry City will once again be underway over the next few weeks, as Tony Mowbray faces the task of constructing a side that can get the Sky Blues back into the Championship.

With so many departures after this campaign was concluded, Coventry City fans can expect to see their side be very busy as the team is currently hugely lacking in depth at this early stage of the summer.

One particular department that will be of real priority to Mowbray will be the strikers.

Only 2 remain from the end of the season, in the experienced Marcus Tudgay and academy prospect George Thomas. Neither are expected to feature too heavily next campaign, so finding the next 20 goal a season striker will be important for the the West Midlands side.

A lot of Coventry's best football this season came from their ruthlessness on the counter-attack, so Mowbray will surely be tempted to once again look for pacey strikers who have the capability to continue to get in behind shaky League 1 defences.

With this in mind, FLW's Tom Percival looks at THREE pacey strikers that Coventry should look to bring in over the next couple of months......

Adam Armstrong

The Newcastle striker was on loan at the Ricoh Arena last season, and was a stunning success for such a young player.

His 20 league goals over the course of the campaign was exactly what he was brought in to do, and Armstrong can feel himself hard done by that he wasn't part of a promotion winning squad.

It was previously expected that the Sky Blues had little chance of bringing back the England U19 international, however things may have changed.

With Newcastle's relegation, they are unlikely to send him to a divisional rival, which leaves them with a choice of the SPL or League 1 should they decide to loan Armstrong again.

Dominic Samuel

Similarly to Armstrong, Dominic Samuel is another ex-Sky Blues loanee, who impressed during his temporary spell at the Ricoh Arena.

He arrived at the back end of the 2014/2015 season, and his goals were hugely important in avoiding what would have been an humiliating relegation to League 2.

His reasonable loan spell at Gillingham in this campaign means that parent club Reading have a decision to make on his future.

At 22, he should now be ready to challenge in the first team, but if the new regime under Jaap Stam do not agree, Samuel could become available for Coventry to pounce.

Mowbray spoke a lot last summer of his admiration of Samuel, so it would be no surprise to see him make a move.

Caolan Lavery

Caolan Lavery

The Sheffield Wednesday striker has had an injury-blighted few years, but if Coventry could get the best out of him, they would have a striker who could potentially be lethal at League 1 level.

His 4 goals in 13 appearances on loan at Portsmouth showed glimpses of what he could do, but a full season under his belt could see Lavery finally begin to fulfil his undoubted potential.

Sheffield Wednesday are believed to have offered the Canadian fresh terms, but he is considering his options, and a move to the Ricoh Arena may be a distinct possibility. Mowbray is believed to be a fan, and fans would hope he has the ability to make a huge impact on the division should a deal be struck.
