The news that Rafael Benitez will remain at St James Park was a huge lift for the club after sinking down to the Championship in May.

The Spaniard, and former Real Madrid manager will use the summer to make sure he brings in the best players to the North East to ensure a successful campaign.

Newcastle were relegated in 2009 to the Championship, but did win the Championship title the following year.

A replication of their Championship experience is a must for the club, and with Benitez’s major experience and loyalty, he could be a major factor to making sure Newcastle move forward as a club.

As expected, key players will leave the club for the top-flight such as Papiss Cisse and Alexander Mitrovic who will have high ambitions to stay in the top-flight.

That leaves the Toon in a position, where they are short of strikers and need a proven goal scorer to make sure they ease back into the Premier League at the first time of asking.

Football League World Writer, Ashley Williams identifies THREE pacey strikers that Newcastle will look to sign in the summer…

Nano – Tenerife

The Tenerife forward has been labelled as the next Ayoze Perez.

The 21-year-old netted 14 goals in 35 games last season and Newcastle are showing a strong admiration for the forward.

He is a player that Benitez knows about, during his time as manager there in 2000-2001. Benitez wants a proven goal scorer to boost his ranks - and will put every effort into signing one.

Newcastle are a reputable club, but whether Nano will risk making a move to the Championship remains a dilemma.

Dwight Gayle – Crystal Palace

The Palace striker looks set to leave South East London in the summer, after being heavily linked with an abundance of Championship and lower league Premier League clubs over the past few months.

Dwight Gayle seems like he is not going to get a game next season after sliding down the pecking order. Pardew is expected to bolster his attacking options after a disappointing season in the league.

Rumours have emerged that the Eagles have offered a lifeline for Gayle to join Newcastle.

Gayle is a proven goalscorer, who is guaranteed to do well and he could be tempted to drop down a division to play for the Toon.

Ross McCormack – Fulham

McCormack has been hot on the radar for several clubs including Newcastle and could be their star man next season if he chooses to travel up north.

The 29 year old is a consistent Championship hitman after netting double figures during his career with Cardiff City, Leeds United and Fulham.

However, with the offer of playing of Championship football at a reputable club like Newcastle could be tempting, he may want to set his standards higher if a Premier League side opts to make a move for the Scottish striker.
