Over the last few years at Deepdale, many players have been brought to the club in order to bolster the ranks in the search for promotion from League One.

A lot of the players recruited ended up playing a huge part in the club’s eventual promotion to the Championship with key players such as Joe Garner and Jermaine Beckford being key to the Whites’ success.

Sometimes when players arrive at a club with a lot of excitement it can pay off for them and they can deliver with good levels of performance.

However, sometimes it doesn’t quite work out the way they had hoped.

Over the following few pages, FootballLeagueWorld writer Tom Rawcliffe identifies THREE over-hyped players who never quite made it at Preston…

ANDY LITTLE

In the summer of 2014, Andy Little was brought to club by Simon Grayson from Scottish giants Rangers where he enjoyed a great spell.

Despite the standard being lower in the Scottish divisions compared to the English Football League, the signing still excited sections of the crowd due to the amount of goals he had to his name with the Gers.

His best season came in the 2012/13 season where he managed to score 22 goals and it was hoped that he could hit that kind of form in a Preston shirt.

However, he endured a very frustrating spell with the club where he made just 16 underwhelming appearances for the Lilywhites before moving on to rivals Blackpool and League Two side Accrington Stanley.

KYEL REID

Another player who arrived in the summer of 2014 was former Bradford City winger Kyel Reid.

The speedy wide-man arrived at Deepdale with very impressive reviews coming from The Bantams support - reviews which he never quite lived up to.

The current Coventry player only ever started 5 league games for Preston in a spell where he massively underachieved.

His time with the club was pretty much over after the Whites gained promotion. During North End’s first season back in the Championship, Reid returned to Bradford on a loan deal before eventually being released by Simon Grayson.

KEAMMAR DALEY

The next player goes a little bit further back to 2011 when Phil Brown made the surprise signing of Jamaican international Keammar Daley.

The then 23-year-old had been capped 22 times by his country and his goalscoring figures from the wing in the Jamaican league looked impressive.

However, he never got going during his time at Deepdale with zero starts made in the league. In fact, the only thing that the pacey winger is remembered for was a brilliant goal which he scored away at Charlton (watch video above).

He lasted just a season and a half at Deepdale before being released in January 2013 when he returned to his native Jamaica.
