Brighton have gone from strength to strength in recent years, gradually moving up the league pyramid and are now an established Championship club challenging for promotion.

This progress has been accommodated by their move to the wonderful AMEX Stadium which is one of the finest stadiums in the division, and will serve them well if they get promoted.

The club have been through huge highs and lows, varying from there dramatic drop down the Football League pyramid to Robbie Reindelt's goal that prevented them from dropping into non-league.

With Chris Hughton at the helm there squad is beaming with talent and they will hope to finally get promoted after years of heartache, ranging from play-off final defeats too being denied automatic promotion by Middlesbrough on the final day of last season.

They have had great players ranging from Peter Ward to Bobby Zamora but here are THREE over-hyped Brighton players that never quite made it....

Chris O'Grady

O'Grady cost Brighton £2 million in the summer of 2014 coming off the back of scoring an impressive 15 goals for Barnsley in the 13/14 season, but they were still relegated.

Brighton in an attempt to replace Leonardo Ulloa who left in a bumper deal to Leicester, signed O'Grady but he flopped scoring just 1 goal in 28 games.

His terrible form saw Brighton in relegation trouble and he now mainly spends his time out on loan.

Craig Mackail-Smith

The 27- year-old striker promised a lot when he moved to Brighton in the 11/12 season from Peterborough, where he had scored an impressive 80 goals in 185 games.

The step up to the Championship didn't faze him at first with 20 goals in 74 games but injuries cut his time at the top disappointingly short and after 1 goals in 35 games, he was sold to Luton.

Raphael Meade

He may of played back for them in the 90's in darker times for Brighton, but he is still remembered as one of their poorest ever players.

The former Arsenal striker notched just 9 goals in 40 games before becoming a journeyman, ending his career at local club Sittingbourne.

Meade has plenty of hype around him at Arsenal and did well at Sporting Lisbon but struggled to make the transition back to English football.
