Nigel Pearson has already suggested that Bristol City won't have much money to spend this summer, which will mean they'll have to be smart as they look to strengthen their squad ahead of the 2022/23 Championship season.

Targetting out-of-contract players is a way to do just that and there are plenty of talented options that are set to leave their respective clubs this summer.

With that in mind, we've highlighted three that the Robins should target to enhance their squad...

Kane Wilson

Right-back has been a problem position for City, with Zak Vyner struggling to make an impact, Danny Simpson departing, and George Tanner injured.

Tanner looks an exciting prospect but he's not yet the finished article and bolstering at the position would make sense.

Wilson, meanwhile, scooped the League Two Player of the Season award and has 16 goal contributions (three goals, 13 assists) this term.

He's out of contract in the summer and has been linked with a move to Ashton Gate.

The 22-year-old already lives in the South West and would surely jump at the chance to join a Championship side.

Jeremie Bela

With Callum O'Dowda likely heading for the exit door, there is a distinct lack of pace in the Robins squad.

Andi Weimann and Antoine Semenyo are quick but it's an area that Pearson should look to strengthen as he's lacking viable wide options at senior level.

Birmingham City's Jeremie Bela is out of contract this summer and should be a target for the Ashton Gate outfit.

He's proven his versatility this term while he's got bags of pace and can be a real nuisance for opposing defences.

In many ways, it's a no-brainer.

Josh Laurent

An ambitious one, perhaps, but Reading midfielder Josh Laurent is out of contract this summer and could add some real quality in the centre of the park.

There are question marks over whether Andy King's extension will be triggered and whether Han-Noah Massengo could depart so strengthening in midfield could make sense – particularly given Matty James and Joe Williams have both missed time due to injury this term.

The 26-year-old has been excellent for the Royals over the past two seasons, showing his quality at Championship level, and would certainly enhance Pearson's squad.
