Brentford will now be turning their attentions to the play-offs after their hopes of finishing in the automatic spots were ended as both Norwich City and Watford secured their returns to the Premier League respectively.

Ivan Toney has inevitably been the club's leading man for much of the campaign, continuing on from the fine form he showed for his previous club Peterborough United last season.

Meanwhile the likes of Bryan Mbeumo, Mathias Jensen and Marcus Forss have all stepped up this term in an attempt to fill the void which was left at the club by the departures of Said Benrahma and Ollie Watkins last summer.

With their strong form has come even more links with players potentially making a move away from West London and as a result their squad could change drastically no matter what division they find themselves in next term.

Here, we take a look at how Brentford's XI could look at the start of the 2021/22 season.

The Spanish shot stopper is a key part of this Brentford side and is almost certain to be with the club next term after impressing once more under the stewardship of Thomas Frank.

His sweeper style of goalkeeping makes him the ideal man to start attacks from the back by distributing the ball out to either the centre halves, full backs or midfielders with his wide range of passing.

With a contract until 2024 in West London, it appears unlikely that Raya will be moving on for pastures new anytime soon as he bids to get the Bees to the Premier League.

The Danish right back has once again been a consistent performer for the Bees in their pursuit of promotion and has surely done enough to earn a contract extension after playing just north of 30 games for the West London outfit this term.

He is currently sidelined through injury but is expected to be back for the play-offs, a fact which will no doubt be a boost to the club's backline after some inconsistent results which has seen their defensive standards slip somewhat.

Dalsgaard offers vital experience in this position and is clearly a player that Frank has a lot of trust in.

Still one of the best central defenders in the Championship on his day, Jansson is another player that we expect to remain with the club next season, with the towering Swede having excelled since swapping Leeds for Brentford back in 2019.

Injury problems have restricted him to just 21 starts this term but his presence at the back has been very welcome since coming back into the side and he will no doubt be looking to re-establish his partnership with Ethan Pinnock at the heart of the back four in the weeks ahead.

Jansson's form will be key no matter what division the club finds itself in.

The former Barnsley centre back should still be at the Brentford Community Stadium next term after continuing to be a regular under Frank as part of the back four.

There is no doubting that he has missed playing alongside Jansson over the past few months, but with the pair having now been reunited, we may begin to see a more sturdy and solid Brentford backline develop as we head towards the play-offs in the coming weeks.

Pinnock is well into his prime as a centre back and continues to earn rave reviews for his performances at Championship level since moving to West London a few years ago.

The young full back appears likely to get his starting chance under Thomas Frank next term, with his fellow defender Rico Henry appearing set to depart the club this summer for the Premier League.

Thompson has impressed during the short time that he has been with the club and is currently earning important experience on loan with Swindon Town in Sky Bet League One.

Next season offers the former Arsenal youngster a real chance to nail down a starting spot in West London, with Henry's expected departure sure to lead to further opportunities at the Brentford Community Stadium in years to come.

The Danish deep lying playmaker continues to keep things ticking over in the centre of the park for the Bees and has been in outstanding form in their pursuit of promotion.

Playing in a role that allows him to drop deep to collect the ball and start attacks for his side, Jensen is fast developing into one of the most talented midfield players outside of the top flight at the time of writing.

His slight frame and low centre of gravity also makes him a threat in the final third of the field and he has laid on several assists for his teammates.

The young German has really excelled for the Bees since joining the club last summer and has proved to have been a shrewd signing by Frank as he has added an extra level of dynamism to the midfield.

Slotting in perfectly alongside Jensen, Janelt continues to showcase his all round game by performing brilliantly in a box to box role for his side, with his creativity and defensive output underlining both his importance to the defence and attack.

His talents will only go from strength to strength as he is only 22 and he is sure to attract interest from elsewhere if his form continues.

The Frenchman has arguably become more of a key man for his side this term following the departures of Watkins and Benrahma and has continued to be a menace on the right hand side for his club.

Still only young, Mbeumo has developed into a brilliant attacking winger under Frank and has repaid the faith that was shown in him when he arrived from Troyes for a decent sized fee.

He is expected to remain with the club no matter what division they are in and it will be interesting to see how much longer he stays in West London if his form continues.

The versatile former Oxford United and Reading man has really excelled in recent weeks as a number 10 for the Bees and as a result he could nail down a starting spot in the future.

With Josh Dasilva likely to depart for the Premier League in the summer, Fosu could well come in as the club's main attacking threat from the centre of midfield, as it is a role he has performed well in recently.

Also capable of slotting in on either wing, the 25-year-old is fast becoming a very useful option for the West London side to utilise going forwards.

The Spaniard has bounced back superbly well from his injury problems that have hampered him over the last few years and has firmly reclaimed his pot in the starting eleven on the left hand side after the departure of Benrahma to West Ham United last summer.

Canos has shown that he can still be one of the best attackers in the Championship on his day and at the age of 24, arguably still has the best years of his career ahead of him in a red and white shirt.

He will once again be a leading light for his side in the next campaign.

The young Finn has been in brilliant form this term after returning from his loan spell with AFC Wimbledon in the previous campaign and would be expected to become the club's number one choice up front once Ivan Toney departs for a bigger club.

With Toney being strongly linked with a move away, it would be fair to assume that Frank would then turn to Forss, with the youngster having already notched up six goals in just seven starts this term, underlining his strong potential to be a regular scorer in the years to come.

Forss will also be looking to make an impact for Finland at the Euros if he is selected.
