Coventry City are flying high at the top of the League One table, with some solid early-season form that has cemented their credentials as a possible promotion candidate.

Mark Robins' side impressed at the tail-end of the last campaign, putting in some strong displays as they finished just outside the top six. A turbulent summer followed in which they endured several blows to their chances of success.

Despite this, the Sky Blues have started incredibly well and travel to Burton Albion this weekend level on points with Wycombe at the top of the table. With a blend of experience and youth, the free-flowing Sky Blues have surely announced themselves as serious Championship contenders.

With goals in the side, a tough defence and a never-say-die attitude which saw them haul back a 3-0 deficit at Portsmouth, Robins will hope to see his side continue their good run.

They've impressed despite a number of obstacles being placed in their way over the summer, all of which they've managed to negotiate. We look at three blows Coventry City have dealt with easily.

St Andrew's

The obvious obstacle they had to negotiate was the ground share with Birmingham City. The situation with their own ground, the Ricoh Arena, has led to them once again playing home games outside Coventry.

It could have been a massive blow, the impact of not having a home crowd leading to poor results. Thus far, that's not been the case.

They're one of only three sides to still have a 100% record at home this season and are showing no signs of slowing at St Andrew's.

Jordan Willis

Losing Willis could have been a big blow in the summer. He was arguably one of their star performers last season and would have formed the centrepiece of their defence this time out.

That's not been a problem for Robins. He brought in Kyle MacFadzean from this weekend's opponents Burton, and the defender has settled quickly.

Losing key players could have put them off course, but Robins has worked well to ensure that doesn't happen.

Tyler Walker

Coventry made no secret of the fact they wanted Walker on loan from Nottingham Forest, instead the striker chose Lincoln City and left Robins hunting a striker.

They've recovered well from that knock-back, bringing in Matt Godden from Peterborough. He's scored three in six and the loss of the main target hasn't affected them at all.

With Callum O'Hare also chipping in from the bench, they look set to be an attacking force this season.
