Birmingham City caretaker head coach Pep Clotet bolstered his attacking options yesterday by signing Jeremie Bela on a free transfer.

As confirmed by the club's website, the winger has agreed a three-year deal with the Blues which will keep him at the club until 2022.

Bela officially left former club Albacete earlier this week following a lengthy contract dispute.

Having received international clearance today, the 26-year-old could feature for the Blues in their clash with Fulham on Saturday.

Although Bela will be looking to make an instant impact at St Andrew's, he will first have to overcome these three obstacles...

Adapting to life in the Championship

Arguably the most competitive domestic league in world football, the Championship can be an unforgiving place for those who have never played in it before.

Given that Bela falls into this particular category, it is imperative that he makes the correct adjustments to his game in order to have the best chance of succeeding in the second-tier.

If he cannot adapt to life in England, he may be forced to watch on from the sidelines for the majority of the 2019/20 campaign.

Forcing his way into Birmingham's starting eleven

When you consider that Fran Villalba and Dan Crowley have both delivered a number of impressive performances this season, there is no guarantee that Bela will slot straight into Clotet's starting eleven.

Therefore, the winger must illustrate to his boss in training why he deserves a chance to prove himself in the Championship for Birmingham.

Providing that he hits the ground running for the Blues, Bela may play a key role in helping them achieve a relative amount of success over the coming months in the second-tier.

Producing the goods on a consistent basis

Arguably one of Albacete's stand-out performers last season, Bela scored 12 goals in all competitions for the Spanish outfit.

However, he did struggle at times with his consistency in the Segunda Division which will be somewhat of a concern for Birmingham.

If he eradicates this particular issue, Bela may take the Championship by storm as he can be deadly when he is on top-form.
