It has been a disappointing season for fans of a Nottingham Forest persuasion to contend with, and a finish in the bottom half of the Sky Bet Championship is now confirmed.

The below-par campaign is all the more difficult to contend for Forest fans based on the fact that the club has celebrated its 150th birthday, in a campaign which has offered little cause for a celebration.

The club will search for a new manager ahead of next season with Martin O’Neill, Nigel Pearson and Gustavo Poyet high on the club’s list of potential candidates, according to bookmakers.

Whoever the club chooses to try and revive the club’s fortunes, there is a real sense that the next managerial appointment will be crucial for the East Midlands-based outfit.

Chris O’Grady

The striker was signed on a season-long loan from Brighton and Hove Albion and was expected to take the burden of scoring goals away from Nelson Oliveira.

O’Grady has found the net just twice for Forest this season and his performances have been disappointing beyond belief.

At his previous clubs the striker has been renowned for holding the ball up and bringing other team-mates into play, yet the Forest faithful have seen nothing of the sort, with O’Grady instead looking lacklustre and clumsy in attack.

There is seemingly no chance whatsoever of Forest renewing O’Grady’s stay at the City Ground beyond this season, which will be music to supporters’ ears.

Ryan Mendes

The Cape Verdean international was signed on a season-long loan from French outfit Lille and initially looked to be a positive signing.

To include the 26-year-old in a list of players who have let the club down this season might seem a little bit harsh but it is impossible to imagine him staying beyond the current campaign.

Mendes has blistering pace and is a complete nightmare to defend against but as with Paul Anderson who has played on the wing for Forest previously, his delivery into the box is nothing short of abysmal.

If Mendes could add a final ball into his game then he would be a far better player but until that point there will always be better options in his position at Forest.

Kelvin Wilson

Whilst some of the criticism thrown in the direction of the ex-Celtic man this season has been unjust, it is fair to say that it hasn’t been Wilson’s finest campaign in the red of Nottingham Forest.

The 30-year-old has not been a first-team regular by any stretch of the imagination during the current campaign but when he has featured, he has cost the team goals with some high profile errors.

His latest clanger came in a 3-0 reverse against Brentford at the City Ground, when his poor concentration levels and pace came into serious question.

Wilson is in his second spell with the Reds and with his contract coming to an end in the summer, his days at the City Ground look to be numbered.
