With the 2018/19 campaign beginning to come to an end, Wigan Athletic will be praying that they can keep hold of Nick Powell beyond this season.

The attacking midfielder played an influential role in Wigan's promotion from League One last term, and has since carried his form over to this campaign, scoring six goals and producing six assists for Paul Cook's men.

But the 25-year old is facing an uncertain future at the DW Stadium, with his contract set to expire at the end of the current campaign.

With reported interest from promotion chasers Leeds United circling, the Latics must be resigned to losing their star-man in the summer, especially with their place in the Championship still not confirmed for next term.

Here, we take a look at three replacements Wigan should be considering if he did leave for Leeds...

Sammie Szmodics

Szmodics is attracting a host of high-profile clubs after a hugely impressive campaign thus far.

The 23-year old has scored 12 goals and produced seven assists for League Two side Colchester United this term, and has since been attracting interest from the likes of Bristol City and Derby County.

Able to play up front or in behind the striker, he'd be a terrific replacement for Powell.

Erhun Oztumer

Oztumer has been frozen out at Bolton Wanderers by Phil Parkinson, having failed to make an appearance for the Trotters since New Year's Day.

The diminutive playmaker hasn't really been given a chance since his move from Walsall in the summer, where he lit up League One for the Saddlers.

He is fully deserving of another chance in the Championship, with Bolton looking destined for League One football.

Graham Carey

Carey has been Plymouth Argyle's standout performer over the last few years, and should be a player on Wigan's radar.

The Irish midfielder has scored five goals and produced 10 assists for Argyle this season, and is a player who Cook will know well from his time managing Pompey.

He is far too good for League One and could be an assist king for Wigan.
