Wolves had a very disappointing campaign last season failing to build on the success of the previous season to the dismay of fans, but they will hope for better this season.

In the 2014/15 season, Wolves played some excellent football and narrowly missed out on the play-offs with the partnership between Sako, Afobe and Dicko one of the finest in the Football League.

After narrowly missing out, fans wanted to see manager Kenny Jackett add to the squad but instead he let Sako and Afobe leave and he failed to replace the badly injured Dicko.

Wolves struggled all season without an established goal scorer and selling defender Stearman to Fulham resulted in them having a terrible defensive record last season.

Wolves fans will be desperate for manager Kenny Jackett to get it right in the transfer market this time, with strikers badly needed after Afobe was their top scorer last season despite leaving halfway through.

Also conceding 58 goals was unacceptable and they badly need to strengthen their defence, and build around talented youngsters like Iorfa if they are to challenge for promotion this season.

Here are THREE new signings who could start against Rotherham in the opening game of the season......

Adam Armstrong

The young Newcastle United prodigy has been turning heads for a while and his outstanding performances for Coventry drew praise from everyone.

His 20 goals in 40 games earned the 19-year-old plaudits and a nomination for League 1 Player of the Season and regular football for the U19 England side.

He almost fired Coventry to promotion and there will be a fight for his signature next season with Newcastle having strikers like Alexander Mitrovic, meaning Armstrong may not get a look in.

Coventry are keen to sign him up again but regular Championship football is the step up the youngster needs and Wolves are in desperate need of a striker, since the departure of Afobe last season and Armstrong would be a good partner for the fit again Dicko.

James Wilson

Another rumour flying about for Wolves is that they may sign young Manchester United striker James Wilson, who is being pursued by several Championship sides.

One of the top young players in England, he spent last season on loan at Wolves and scored 7 goals in 25 games showing great work rate and some more first team football in the Championship will better his chances of staying at Old Trafford.

The kid has good pace and movement and could be just what Wolves need.

He is a big part of the England youth set up and Wolves will need to act fast as there are a plethora of clubs after his signature.

Matt Smith

Smith is another player being very strongly linked to Wolves, with the Fulham striker out of favour at Craven Cottage.

Ever since he moved there from Leeds he only started 35 times in 2 seasons and spent his first season mostly on loan at Bristol City.

Sadly for Smith he is down the pecking order due to Fulham having an excellent strike partnership between Ross McCormack and Moussa Dembele, and even though they are set to lose Dembele they will most likely replace him with Cauley Woodrow rather than Smith.
