It's been a difficult start for Norwich City so far this season - not only are they winless in two, but fans are expressing considerable discontent regarding the state of the squad as the Canaries aim to match pre-season expectations of a third Sky Bet Championship title in five years.

Here at Football League World, we've come up with some suggestions to kickstart a beleaguered first-team Norwich squad back up to the Canaries' usual perch atop the second tier league table.

1. Kortney Hause

Kortney Hause will be a name familiar to Norwich manager Dean Smith, who took the defender to Aston Villa on loan in the second half of their 2018-19 promotion campaign and paid £3 million to land the former Wolves defender permanently in the Premier League the following summer.

Hause has always been a consistent performer for the Villains when called upon and under Dean Smith scored the only goal in a famous 1-0 win over Manchester United, but injuries and increased competition have led to his role being diminished.

The centre-back is currently nursing an injury that will see him sidelined for the next couple of weeks, but with new signing Diego Carlos having arrived in the summer and displacing names like England international Tyrone Mings, it's arguable that Hause wouldn't even have a starting role in the team regardless of his injury.

Norwich are in dire need of some depth in defence, with only 3 recognised centre-backs on the books. Form is also a problem, with Grant Hanley receiving a red card in their opening fixture against Cardiff before his replacement Ben Gibson's error allowed Luton to secure a draw against the Canaries in the next match.

Hause would be a shrewd signing - a defender who played his best football under the current gaffer with successful Championship experience who solidifies a current position of weakness. Given Villa's depth in defence after their summer recruitment, you would imagine that Norwich could get the deal over the line fairly cheaply too.

2. Josh Tymon

Once an understudy to Premier League and Champions League winner Andy Robertson, Tymon joined Stoke City in the summer of 2017 and finally made the left-back spot his own last year, racking up 44 league appearances.

This season the left-back, who was capped from England U-17 to U-20 youth level, appears to be flourishing. He ran the show against Blackpool last weekend with two assists but could have had even more - and Potters fans are now quietly acknowledging that they have a real gem on their hands.

This, however, is where Norwich could come into play.

Starting left-back Dimitris Giannoulis suffered a horror ankle injury in the Canaries' 1-1 draw to Luton Town which could keep the Greek international out for several months, and Norwich could be looking to shore up their defence despite Sam McCallum's ability to capably deputise on the left side of defence.

Tymon signed a contract extension with Stoke last December so a deal would by no means be cheap, but without doubt he would represent a dream acquisition to fill a position of need for Norwich.

3. Paddy Lane

Last season's League One Young Player of the Year Paddy Lane would provide some much-needed versatility and ball progression to link Norwich's midfield and attack, driving forward from midfield to provide goals and assists with the likes of Marcelino Núñez or a returning Isaac Hayden sitting back to cover.

Kenny McLean has looked out of sorts so far this season and if no new left-back arrives Dean Smith has said that Jacob Sørensen will be able to move back from midfield and fill in for 2-3 months while Dimi Giannoulis is out with injury, opening up a role for someone like Lane to compete with Kieran Dowell and new loan signing Aaron Ramsey as one of two number 8s in Norwich's 4-3-3 formation.

The Fleetwood Town midfielder can also operate further forward as an attacking midfielder or on both wings, which would offer some useful tactical flexibility in the fluid system preferred by Dean Smith as well as further quality depth.

Fleetwood would command a decent fee for the Northern Ireland international, who made 13 goal contributions in the 21-22 season which he started as just a teenager, but the Canaries could surely afford to bring in the exciting youngster.
