Sheffield United have long been the nearly club in League One as they seem to contend for promotion every year but the fall at the final hurdle.

This year under new manager Nigel Adkins they have been there typical inconsistent selves and currently sit in ninth position, just two points off the playoffs with a couple of games in hand on some of there rivals.

There defence has been relatively weak this year conceding 39 goals, but they have been potent upfront with 45 goals making them one of the highest scoring teams in League One.

Adkins must assure that his players have the right mentality for the run in this season, as this is the stage Sheffield United would typically implode.

One of the biggest sides in the league with a large fanbase, they would relish the chance to play Wednesday in the Championship, that is if Wednesday do not get promotion themselves.

Sheffield United's star man this season has without a doubt been Billy Sharp who has scored 14 goals and is by far the top goalscorer.

He is very experienced at that level and is one of the division's top goal-scorers but has been helped out by youngster Che Adams and the experienced Conor Sammon.

There lack of transfer activity though, which has worried fans that they may miss out on promotion again. But here we focus on Sheffield United's unsung heroes, the THREE most underrated players of their season so far are.......

Matt Done

Some Sheffield United fans feel Matt Done has carried the midfield all season and that is why he is now injured.

The 27-year-old has been absolutely outstanding for United this season with four goals and numerous assists, and his outstanding link up play with Adams and Sharp.

Whilst Sharp will get the plaudits due to the impressive goal tally he has, it is no doubt that the work done by Done has been and will be essential to United this season.

The former Everton youngster has only been at United two years, and has accumulated nearly 100 appearances at just 23 years old.

He can play up front or in midfield and the former England U21 has five goals this season, and along with fellow youngster Che Adams, he gives the side flair and exuberance up front.

Baxter may not always get the credit he deserves, as his creativity his simply essential to how Sheffield United play.

The young striker is certainly rated by the fans at Bramall Lane, after bursting on to the scene last season with a quick-fire double against Spurs in the semi-finals of the Capital One Cup.

The youngster also has six goals this season, but the management at United don't seem to rate him and fans criticise Adkins for not giving Adams enough of a chance.

Many think he has a huge future in the game even if his future at Bramall Lane seems uncertain.
