Sheffield Wednesday are having their best season in nearly 20 years of football.

Sitting in fifth position in the Championship table there is an air of positivity around the club, thanks to the backing of a new board and a new manager who has introduced a new style of play to the team, which has delivered success so far.

Most of the Owls squad have contributed this season in one way or another to the success that has been achieved so far, but there are always players who will be seen as overrated either by home fans or opposing fans.

Wednesday have spent a lot of money on players during the summer and winter transfer windows, and with this will come pressure to deliver at Hillsborough.

Here, FLW's Lee Connor takes a look at THREE Sheffield Wednesday players who could be considered overrated this season....

Liam Palmer

The academy graduate has struggled to break in to the team this season, amid the influx of new signings.

Many thought he would be a mainstay of the team, and despite winning the Owls player of the season award two seasons ago, he has struggled to nail down a regular starting berth in the 11.

He has started only 10 games this season, with two coming in the cup, and many will look at Palmer who could be one player who may well be moved on the summer if the success of the club continues.

Lewis McGugan

There was a real demand among Owls fans for the club to make McGugan a permanent signing when they initially had him on loan last season.

Fans got their wish, as McGugan sealed a move during the summer.

However, things have not gone quite to plan for the former Forest and Watford man, and he has struggled to hold down any sort of place in the starting 11 on a consistent basis.

When he has played, he has normally performed ok, but something does not sit right between him and manager Carlos Carvalhal, and despite being looked upon by many clubs as a player who would walk straight in to their side, he is ultimately failing to live up to his reputation.

Modou Sougou

The 31-year-old Senegalese man arrived at Hillsborough with a glowing reputation for being a tricky and pacey winger, who could fill the void left by the outgoing Jacques Maghoma and Jermaine Johnson before him.

However he has proved to be somewhat of a failure despite his reputation across the continent, and has failed to win a place in the starting 11.

He has made less than 10 starts in the league for the Owls so far and contributed only three goals.

One can't help  but think that with the money available and talent already at the place, Sougou may well be on his way come the summer transfer window.
