Aston Villa are a club struggling at this moment in time, with things not going well at all at Villa Park.

Steve Bruce is the man shouldering the most of the blame, with Villa’s supporters extremely vocal with their displeasure over results, which have left Villa in mid-table after nine fixtures.

Amongst the problems at Villa Park is Bruce’s defence, who have kept just one clean sheet so far this season in the Championship.

John Terry’s presence is sorely missed, with James Chester struggling to find his best without last year’s captain alongside him.

Recent reports have linked Villa with a move for Gary Cahill, the Chelsea centre-back who played at Villa Park in the Premier League earlier in his career.

Cahill, now 32, has found his playing time limited at Chelsea this season, casting doubt over his long-term future at Stamford Bridge.

The Welshman has experience and would be a shrewd addition at Villa Park.

He’s played with Chester before and has also linked up with Neil Taylor on the international scene.

He’s a player that would fit seamlessly into Villa’s squad.

Caulker has experience at some big clubs in England and is looking to put his career back on track.

The centre-back has a point to prove and is at a good age.

He could be a shrewd addition alongside Chester.

Granted, it wouldn’t be cheap to get Terry back to Villa Park on a short-term deal, but it could be a better move than targeting Cahill.

Of course, you’d get more years out of Cahill, but Terry was settled at Villa and was clearly such an influence in the dressing room.

Bringing him back on board could help save a season that looks like it is sinking fast.
