Sheffield United sit atop the Championship table for the first time this season as the league pauses for the latest round of international fixtures.

The Blades saw off the challenge of Hull City last weekend to reach the summit of the division to highlight their impressive start to the season.

Chris Wilder’s men have won eight, and drawn one of their first 12 matches this season, losing three.

After tailing off the promotion hunt at the end of last season, United started the year slow, but have seen recaptured their form that saw them start impressively last term.

If the Blades are to be progressive and maintain their form throughout the campaign, then Wilder will need to learn from mistakes made in the past to prevent them faltering once more.

With that said here are three mistakes Wilder cannot afford to repeat at Sheffield United.

At the start of the campaign, Wilder tried to alter his attacking options with the additions of Ben Woodburn on loan from Liverpool and the free addition of David McGoldrick after his release from Liverpool.

Bringing them in meant Billy Sharp was dropped. That affected the team and the matches he did not start, they would invariably lose.

Since returning to the starting line up, the striker has been in the form of his life scoring seven goals in nine league starts.

And Wilder needs to not drop his talismanic forward if he has any hope of seeing his side challenge for promotion.

In April, Chris Wilder threatened to quit after a boardroom battle at Bramall Lane regarding the ownership of Sheffield United.

Wilder questioned the future of the club and called into question his position as manager.

He wanted to see the club move forward and was not enjoying his time in charge.

Despite all that, the manager should be keeping his focus on the pitch, and if he does that and cuts out the mistake of getting distracted by things above his, his side might not have entered a bad run of form that affected their promotion push after last Christmas.

The boardroom battle was a catalyst to the slump in their post-Christmas form.

Having discussed distractions, it is the manager’s job to keep the side playing well.

Their slump was fatal for their promotion push and having possibly taken his foot off the pedal, knowing the club would not be relegated, he will need to not do the same again.

United need to be relentless and not ease up the pressure, especially as they now sit on top of the division

Chris Wilder needs to learn from his mistake last year and make sure he and his side do not let their standards slip and aim to go after every game to maintain their position higher up the league.
