Managerless Millwall travel to Brentford in the Championship this weekend, as caretaker boss Adam Barrett looks to pull off another win.

Neil Harris stepped down as Millwall manager earlier this month, with his side struggling in the bottom half of the Championship.

Adam Barrett has been installed as the caretaker manager, and pulled off a shock 2-1 win against Leeds United in his first game before the international break.

They travel to Brentford this weekend, but whether they’ll have a permanent manager in place before then is unknown.

Wycombe Wanderers’ boss Gareth Ainsworth is a strong favourite for the job, so too is Championship regular Gary Rowett.

The team will be eager to impress whoever comes in, and here we take a look at three players will be fighting to keep their spot in the run-up to the New Year.

Matt Smith

Big Matt Smith joined Millwall in the summer from QPR and quickly became a hit at The Den.

The striker has netted three goals so far this season but was left on the bench for the last game against Leeds United.

Tom Bradshaw was the preferred choice for Barrett, and he repaid him by scoring the second against Leeds last time out - his second in as many games for Millwall.

Smith could find himself on the bench a bit more with Bradshaw hitting form, and will be eager to prove himself to their new boss.

Jon Dadi Bodvarsson

Jon Dadi Bodvarsson was part of the Icelandic eleven that beat England at Euro 2016, but his career has since dwindled.

He’s only featured five times for Millwall in the Championship this season, acting as their cup striker instead - he’s scored three goals in two EFL Cup games this season.

Bodvarsson is another one that’s fallen further down the pecking order in light of Bradshaw’s recent form, and he’ll likely be behind Smith as well in the plans of their next manager.

His cup opportunities will be limited until the FA Cup begins and game-time in the league will be sparse, he’ll have a tough job getting in the team between now and January.

Shaun Hutchinson

28-year-old Shaun Hutchinson has only made three starts in the Championship this season, all of them coming in the last four games.

He was out of contention for the early stages of the season but came into the fray upon Harris' departure, and Barrett also favoured him at centre-back along with Jake Cooper.

In his fourth season at The Den, Hutchinson has slowly been falling out of favour at the club. But a recent run of starts will give him confidence and after the Leeds win Barrett will surely pair him and Cooper at the back against Brentford.

He'll have to keep on performing to keep his spot though, with the likes of Jason McCarthy and Alex Pearce also fighting for that spot.
